This morning I had a minor crisis: I could not find Define Beauty.

I knew I'd had it out just the other day. I love this color, and knew that I wanted to use it today. But I could not find it. It wasn't on top of the little cabinet, my "on deck" area. It wasn't with the brown shadows, which was the second place I checked. Since this color was a chameleonic neutral (to some it's a "neutral-brown", to others a "neutral-pink", to others a "neutral-peach"...see why I love it? Versatile!!), I wasn't quite sure where I might have put it last. And since I have...well, lots of eyecolors, finding it wouldn't be easy. I could have picked out one of my other colors. I could have said, "I'll sit down later this evening and find it - and do some long-overdue reorganization." But noooooo. That would have made far too much sense. I got out all six of my storage bins and started looking through them one by one.

Did I put it with the black-and-whites? No...but there's a color that will look good with what I planned for today, so that wasn't an utterly wasted search. I couldn't have possibly misfiled it with the blues, could I have? (Stranger things have happened.) No, no, it's not there. Okay, that's two bins down. There's no way I would have filed this with the greens; but maybe with the oranges...? Nope. And that's one more bin checked off. Browns again, just in case I overlooked it...and no. Dammit. Four bins down. Okay, purples and reds. Quick check of the purples confirms that a) I need to stop buying purples because the bin's full; and 2) there are no oddly-out-of-place brownypinky neutrals in here. I had to look through the red bin twice before I found the right jar...but I found it!! I did indeed have my TSS Define Beauty. And I could get on with creating today's look:

Face

Default foundation; Bare Escentuals Beauty blush

Eyes

  • MAC Fresco Rose paint pot, lash to just above crease
  • The SheSpace Define Beauty, lash to brow
  • Make Up For Ever Star Powder #950 (black gold), inside corner and along lash line
  • Clinique waterproof mascara, brown-black, upper lashes only

Lips

  • Bare Escentuals Destiny Buxom Lip Gloss (originally released as part of the Sephora-exclusive Superstar kit; due to be available by itself in February 2009)

Part of my concern about losing Define Beauty was not just that it's a great, amazingly versatile color. It was part of The She Space's Autumn 2008 Limited Edition collection. There's been talk about making a few of these limited-edition colors part of the regular line; but to date, I haven't seen that happen (except for Oh Precious Patience - which is a lovely color, but I like Define Beauty more.) So while I did get a few jars while it was available - oh smart, smart me - I wouldn't have been able to replace it had I actually lost the jar.

...and I've just scared myself out of ever taking this jar travelling with me.
