Beauty Blog Advent Calendar 2011: Day Twenty-Four

Day Twenty-Four

Like many others I was happy to hear that Aromaleigh was re-opening. I got several colors from the Fall Tapestry collection...and Celine quickly became a breakout favorite. I found myself using it a lot for interviews, because it was a good quick "minimal makeup" eye look. (No photos because It's Been A Week, and today I'm actually visiting my parents, so the camera and graphics software are at home.)

Day Twenty-Three
Day Twenty-Three

I'm in the air today, on my way to visit my parents for Christmas!! So...the advent tree won't be updated any more, because I won't have access. You'll need to visit Sirvinya's and Phyrra's sites manually today, tomorrow, and Christmas Eve. (Especially on Christmas Eve. We're all posting recipes.) Next year we'll have to just write up our final days' posts ahead of time - like right at the beginning.

Day Twenty-Two

I am not a huge celebrater of holidays. But I do like certain aspects about Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day. Those are the times of year when all the wee tiny beauty gift kits come out to play. Sometimes, after these holidays, if you're very very lucky, you can still find these goodies at a discounted price, as stores work to clear their shelves for the next mega-consumer event (like Labor Day or Columbus Day or Tuesday.)

Day Twenty-One

Today I have two (count ‘em, two) interviews, so today’s post is going to be kind of quick. And…well, beautiful, if not strictly beauty-related.

COOKIES!!

Day Twenty

For the longest time, the only makeup I really wore reliably was eyeshadow. Then it was nail polish (occasionally.) Then eyeshadow, nail polish, and maybe a lip gloss. But for whatever reason, lip and cheek color have never been high on my list of things-to-do. Blush actually wasn't really part of my regular routine until 2009, and it's still the item Least Likely To Be Left Off. I think part of that is because I love playing with color - however softly or subdued, compared to some of the bright-shade artists around the blogosphere - and cheeks and lips are most often more subtly or naturally colored.

Day Nineteen

I'm kind of a fan of some of Wet n Wild's makeup. They were some of the first makeup I bought myself (the iridescent purple eyeliner pencil - I used that quite frequently under my beloved Dior iridescents that I spoke of yesterday, and got some really cool effects. Good times...) I have good friends in other countries who are huge WnW fans, though, and so when I see WnW on sale I will pick up some for these good friends and co-enablers. Such was the case with the Dreamweavers collection. I bought two full sets of all six palettes: one for a friend in the UK, and one for the "giveaway" pile. (Hurrah, drugstore sales! I truly love them.)

Day Eighteen

My first makeup that got me interested in makeup was a gift from my aunt that I received when I was 13 or 14. It was a Dior shadow quad, four iridescent eyeshadows: green, gold, pink, blue. I loved them! When I got into mineral makeup I went hog wild getting my hands on any of the iridescents or "eye quickies", until I found TKB Trading and could get them for much less money. The other day, browsing ELF's site, I saw their Eye Transformer palette.

Day Seventeen

So a few nights ago, @FierceNerditude and @erinmacmahon and I were discussing magnetic nail polishes and magnets therefore, on Twitter. I have three magnetic nail polishes from Nails, Inc. (the only three colors currently sold at Sephora) and I only have the straight-line magnet that comes with the polishes. I'd love to find other magnets for magnetic polishes. I've seen stars and other figures, so possibly there are more out there somewhere. Or can one use just about any magnet? I'd love to be able to have more than just images I have to build using straight lines.

Day Sixteen

Today I just have...zero energy. None. Nada. Niente. I've been chasing a particular job for five months now, getting a little closer, a little closer, a little closer!! but never getting to the point where I can start logging hours. It's frustrating and draining.

Day Fifteen

Blush and I have an interesting relationship. I love the idea of adding color to my face, and there are some blushes that look really good on me, but figuring out how to best apply it has been a long trek. I could seem to figure out how to apply it satisfactorally. Sure, I could dust it across the "apples of my cheeks", but that made me look a little clownish. I tried asking numerous MUAs and SAs at salescounters and boutiques, but either got the same old advice or didn't get anything usable at all. They'd just apply the blush and expect me to osmose their technique (or they'd do no better than my own efforts.) I suspect that my face shape just makes it less than easy to apply blush (it's halfway between square and round, I have never ever had a heart-shaped face - which seems to be the template that most makeup SAs use, regardless of a client's actual face shape.)
