Last year was a great year in terms of exploring new makeup, both indie and “corporate” - and I’m already looking forward to some new and new-to-me items for 2012!
Really only one hugely notable thing this week…
We actually had nice weather last weekend. And it’s happening again this weekend!! However, my family is vacationing in the Sierras, where it’s going to snow. In May. Yes, really. I’ve actually had to break out the serious sunscreen the past few days; but it’s been nice to have the warmer weather!
I remember when Sketcher’s Shape-Ups came out, and they were so expensive - I remember prices close to $200. I was mildly interested in these shoes, but not -=that=- interested. $200 for a pair of trainers? You’ve got to be kidding me. So when I went to Costco because I needed new trainers, and I saw Shape-Ups for $50 (and found them in my size!), I got a pair and wore them for about a month. Last weekend, while we had a brief sunny episode, I walked to Costco and bought another pair. I’ve now got my “summer” trainers (white with light blue) and my “winter” trainers (black). Laugh all you want, but I haven’t bought new trainers in six years, and the ones I did buy were really inexpensive - I think they ended up being $15 a pair, with the BOGO sale. One pair - my “winter” trainers - died this past winter. The other pair isn’t dead yet, because I tend to wear sandals in the spring and summer; but who knows when the Sketchers may pass through Costco again?
In other news, if you’re in the US or Canada…you’ve all gotten your Mother’s Day cards and gifts and suchwhich for your moms, right?
So everyone with a television is watching the royal wedding today. Except me, it seems. I wish them well, in a vague sort of way, but I barely have patience for the nuptial productions that I’m obliged to attend. And those are usually over in about an hour, maybe two.
I now have my posting schedule arranged out to, through, and past Dragon*Con (which is 125 days from now.) And after Dragon*Con, I’ll presumably have a whole bunch of new items to review, on account of The Grand Shopping Expedition and a few items coming to me from the UK. We’ve got a whole enablement circle: someone from the UK, Canada, the States…just a few more members, and the Circle Of Beauty Enablement is complete :D
About a month back, I followed a link off of Prime Beauty 50 to trial the Stages of Beauty skincare cream, for just the cost of shipping and handling. What I didn’t realize is that this effectively signed me up to receive a month’s supply of the cream every month, at the full retail price of course. I thought I was just signing up for the 14-day trial supply, and if I never ordered anything else from them ever…that would be it. I had noticed the charge on my card earlier that day, and wondered about it, but work got hectic and I didn’t get a chance to follow up. Then when I went to my post office box to pick up a few packages - some books, my Zoya Earth Day order, my regular mail - I also got another unexpected package from Stages of Beauty.
Hm, I thought. I wonder what this is? They already sent me the trial creme, maybe their system just glitched? And then I opened the invoice to see the charge of $69.99 (plus shipping.)
So is everyone in the northern hemisphere ready for spring yet? I most definitely am. I still have the winter blankets on the bed, and I still wear my fleece jacket in the house half the time. It needs to not be so chilly any more…! I’d also like a few more sunny days to take proper photos of my various holographic polishes. (You know you’re a beauty blogger when the sight of clear skies and bright sun sends you running for products to be swatched!!)
Ready to exchange some nail polish? Zoya's Nail Polish Exchange has begun!! The idea is: trade in bottles of unloved polish from another brand, get a bottle of your chosen Zoya color in exchange - and just pay shipping and handling for the Zoya bottles. In previous years, you'd have to go indicate which Zoya colors you wanted, then send in your bottles to exchange, then receive your chosen colors. This year, you choose your colors the same way you'd place any Zoya order, enter their discount code to get the exchange-price, then send in your old bottles. They've always had a minimum number of bottles - six - but this year they also have a maximum: 24 bottles. (Salon accounts' min/max is 12/48.)
I don’t have much news this week. Also, for some reason this week, I’ve been unusually sluggish and tired. It may have to do with the fact that my city hasn’t seen appreciable sun in over a month. (Apparently we not only gave up sunlight for Lent, we started Lent on February 21st.) I’ve also been cold, and so have been…hibernating a bit more this past week.
