Toys!!! (and news. and some other stuff)
Just a generalized news roundup before I head off to run some errands (including getting breakfast).

Nifty makeup things I've found...or things I'm trying to find.
Just a generalized news roundup before I head off to run some errands (including getting breakfast).
In October 2009, Pure Luxe introduced eight new eyeshadows and two new liners (as well as some other products). I didn’t get samples of the liners, since they effectively cost twice as much for half the product (which is odd, since the fullsize shadows cost 2x as much as the regular eye colors for the same amount of product); but I did get samples of all of the new colors.
Today I received my pretty pretty toys I ordered from Meow Cosmetics. I got ten eye colors from their two limited-edition collections that are supposed to be retiring Real Soon Now - but they're still up, and people can still order from them (I know. I just did, because I found that I missed ordering a dupe of one color. Dingy me.) I have one other order still coming from them, because I went back a second time during the sale and picked up one of their blushes; but today I received:
Still to come are Atlantis (burnished gold with copper pearl) and Canna (iridescent pink sheen - blush), along with three fullsized (for real) IdealEyes pearl shadows from Meow's regular line. Initially I didn't order from these collections for two reasons: I was still on the leaner side financially (hurray for additional jobs); and I was a bit miffed at the price jump: instead of $11 for a nice full 10-gram sifter jar, they were charging $8 for a 5-gram sifter jar. I finally caved for two reasons, aside from the "they're going away soon" bit: I'd gotten a second and third (part time) job and had been stockpiling the savings; and Meow had a sale. I'm hoping that some of these colors make it into the regular lineup, because I might like to try a few more later. I didn't try them all, but initially I'm really liking Iaru and Stingray.
In honor of receiving this batch of goodies, I painted my nails with OPI's Mermaid to Order. They've only got one coat on them so far, but I'm liking the color! I'll wear this to PAX tomorrow while passing out the web hosting business cards.
I recently received my big sample orders from Pure Luxe, Aromaleigh, and Everyday Minerals - and I've been slowly but surely going through all the colors, figuring out what I want to order in fullsize. I've already talked a bit about how several of the colors from Aromaleigh v1's Eye Lusters collection caught my eye, so I put aside most of the sample packets and concentrated on those. I found that of the six I'd ordered, three defnitely looked good. One color didn't thrill me as much as I thought it might, so I set it aside. Two others...two others looked like close duplicates of stuff I already had. One, Edie, was a dead-on match for Simply Naturals' Pink Pearl. The other, Nico...I initially thought that Nico would be a close match for Bare Escentuals' Meow as they had a similar dark golden color base. Just for confirmation, I pulled another color that looked close: TSS' Necessary Laughter. I then set about comparing.
Applied dry, the three colors do seem awfully similar. There was hardly any difference between the shades. Since I always wear my colors over a cream base and often apply them damp, I got a new brush and tested with the damp application. That was when the differences truly showed up.
Nico has a darker gold base than the other three colors. Also (not really visible in the photo above - apologies, my photo skills are growing but they're still not as good as I'd like them to be), Nico has a pink interference-shimmer while Meow and Necessary Laughter have golden or slight blue interference shimmers. Since Bumblebee, from Aromaleigh v1's L'Orchidee collection, was described as having a "blue highlight", I wondered how it would compare to the other three. Applied wet, it has a more pronounced blue shimmer than Meow or Necessary Laughter; but it has the same base color as those two.
I have some more yellows on the way from TSS. Bright Outlook, in particular, may be a closer match. I'll have to check when that color comes in...
I ordered several samples from Pure Luxe last week during their Easter Sample Sale (seemed like many MMU companies had that going on...) and my order arrived yesterday. I'm fairly pleased with the haul - I'm able to cross a few off of my tentative wish-list and confirm a few others. I also got the chance to sample their newest eye colors as well as one of their glow powders. I got 24 samples in all, and while there are a few near-dupes in the batch, I deliberately ordered many greens since that, and yellows, are the smallest portion of my haul and the colors I've been most timid with. I got:
My second and third Aromaleigh orders arrived today: all items from the regular collection, split more-or-less evenly between Rocks Sonic Eyes and Eye Lusters with one last large jar from the Pure Eyes Frost.
This could be a little bit of a challenge because the bulk of TSS' products are out in limited-edition format only! I'll try and note whether a color is permanent, or LE. Hopefully the LE "must haves" will be brought back as part of Heather's Client Faves, so that others get a chance at them.
I've got a LOT of mineral makeup. (And scarily enough, I've acquired all of this in less than two years. Yeesh...) I can now safely slow my acquisition rate because I've got a huge array of colors: a glut of greens; a bounty of blues; a plethora of purples. (There are no synonyms for "plenty" that start with r, o, or y. The English language has let me down.)
I need to reorganize and collect things - while I've got a few storage solutions, they're a bit scattered at the moment. I've got one three-drawer dealio for my paint pots and cream shadows/liners, one slick drawer-and-organizer setup for my face colors and lip glosses; and several craft storage bins for holding my eye pigment jars...which I have sorted by color, and arranged chromatically. Because, yes, I'm that big of a color dweeb.
