Eyeshadow Swatch Project: Browns

On December 30th, I was sounding off that I needed to get back to work because I was creating too many blog projects for myself...and CydonianMU (she did purples) said that I could join her, KimmieKarmaLove (she did blues), jadecarver (she did blacks/greys), RobynHeartsSlap (she did greens), and Raerae (she did reds and oranges) in an eyeshadow swatching collaboration. ("Oh, I'm not helping, am I?" LOL) The general plan was that to start off, each person would pick a color and would make a list of their 10/15/20 favorite shades of that color...and then swatch them all. Since I was planning to do this for my entire collection anyway, this seemed a good way to get started! I've already begun adding the montages to some of my colors - several older, and some of the newer ones that I bought this winter but hadn't catalogued yet. I started with yellows and golds...and then just continued slowly swatching my way through my collection.

Going through my own collection, I've done:

  • My favorite yellows and golds
  • My favorite reds
  • My favorite oranges
  • My favorite greens
  • My favorite blues
  • My favorite purples
  • My favorite blacks/greys/whites
  • My favorite browns

So yesterday finished off most of the heavy lifting, and included a fat lot of manual editing. Today I’ve got more manuual editing, a software upgrade, and then…more site tweaks. (Or possibly very few site tweaks. One hopes for the latter, but realistically expects the former. Why that customer had to have -=that=- particular piece of software upgraded so rampantly, I’ll never know.)

EoTD: Getting My Geek On

I’ve spent all day yesterday, and will spend most of today, fighting with software. The product I use to power this site - and my other 10 sites, business and personal - released a major upgrade, rewriting the program from scratch. This means that it will work better, but it also means that after I performed the backup and upgrade, I had to reinstall and reconfigure all my plugins, troubleshoot why half my sites weren’t working at all, get those working, fuss with the new software (which has been dramatically reorganized) and figure out where things were hidden now, and triplecheck to make sure everything was working. And once that was done, I started working on my “hobby” sites…like this one. The photo-gallery module has been removed (apparently because there wasn’t a whole lot of demand for it) and so now everyone who had used that module extensively is either staying with the old version of the software, or scrambling to find workarounds. I’ve been working to make the gallery-links into simple popup windows with the larger images (have to manually edit Every. Single. Entry. Ugh!!) but I kind of liked the convenience of having all my colors organized and displayed. Maybe I’ll install Coppermine…

I spend the rest of the day troubleshooting software, tweaking the site (it may go down or start acting wonky…in fact, Beauty Blogs’ Backstage is already a bit borked, after the last major server tweak on Friday evening), wearing my warpaint. (Rather subdued as far as warpaint goes…but that’s me.)

I’ve been adamantly resisting using red and green together in a look because I thought it would look “too Christmassy”. Today I said, “who cares? I’ve got greens to use up!!” and did a red-and-green look. With white.

I’m not quite sure how it happened, but somehow I ended up with a whole lotta greens. (Actually, I do know how it happened. Back when I started this blog and organized all my shadows, I noticed that I had lots of red, brown, and purple, but almost no greens or oranges. I wanted to challenge myself by learning how to use those two colors better…which meant buying more oranges and greens. Unfortunately, my selection of greens isn’t quite as varied as my selection of oranges. So this look is going to be pretty monochromatic - and not much variation in intensity, either. But, hey, greens!!)

(I know. Shutting up now.)

Happy Memorial Day, everyone in the US!! (Happy Bank Holiday to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.) Unfortunately, while putting my look together today, I had to throw out my Pout lippie from Aromaleigh because it had gone bad (odor, plus drastic change in texture). I’m still looking for suggestions for replacement lippies - they don’t have to be vegan, I’d kind of prefer indie MMU, and lip tints/lip colors are preferable to glosses. I did get to use my Meow Cosmetics’ undereye concealer, and really like the results.

Look: Let Your Geek Flag Fly

Today is Towel Day, in celebration of Douglas Adams; but also International Geek Pride Day. (And the Wearing of the Lilac, for Terry Pratchett's fans. Because geeks are fond of being as manically efficient as possible, so let's dogpile all these observances and celebrations atop each other, get seriously blotto on Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters, throw subreferences until we don't even know what we're saying, and let our geek flags fly...but don't forget the towels.) My colors aren't necessarily thematic (though one is...), but I am wearing my newest colors: first, to place them directly in the "used" portions of the storage bins; and second, so that I can get photos of each pot for the gallery. You see what I did thar? Multitasking, and organization. And a near-moribund internet meme. All because I'm geeky as hell. Part of the One Year Eyecolor Challenge (new colors used: 5)
