Where am I?

  • I am not in a food coma - though that would be preferable to my current condition.
  • I did not get buried under the abnormal snow that hit the Puget Sound region, nor was I frozen solid as I attempted to take out my garbage in a Fargoesque snowstorm.
  • I was not hit by a skidding car, driven by an overagitated, underprepared Pacific Coast driver who was trying to get from Point A to Point B in the aforementioned snowstorm without benefit of things like snow chains or smart driving speeds or - after the first few slow-motion mid-street automobile pirouettes - a clean pair of pants.

No, the reality is more quotidian, more irritating, but rather well timed. The weather turned, and I got what felt like a cold. Then yesterday I awoke after a nap to find I'd become on giant ache.

Get Off the Drama Llama

There’s a new wave of drama going on in indie-makeup-land. (There seem to always be waves of drama. As soon as one dies down, another rises into prominence.) I would almost love to sit down with a sociologist and hash this out, because on an aggregate level I’m sure it’s a fascinating study of human behavior, perceptions, definitions of relationships (including rights and responsibilities therein), and communication on both the one-to-one and the one-to-many level. However, since I can’t do that, I’d like to offer my own advice to anyone doing business with a small or microbusiness. Just a few things to keep in mind, if you will. (Many of these also apply to small and microbusiness owners - and having been one for nine years, having had to fire clients, having had to clearly establish boundaries and clearly define what I will and won’t do, and clearly outline what I intend to provide for my clients…I have an opinion. As does everyone, actually. But anyhoo, on to the post.)

I hate weeks like this…

It’s been A Week. Got some long-lost mail returned, sent the first of a sideways-worded “I’d very much like my paycheck, please” emails to a so-called employer, redid the side yard (swapped out rocks for soil and grass), dealt with an ill kitty and a dead coffee grinder, got an order with a bunch of spillage and sulked about that for a bit, locked myself out of the house, whacked the everloving daylights out of my big toe, and had all the regular life joys to deal with. The high point of my week was the new episode of Caprica, and it was a Sam-light episode. (Still a great show, I loved the story developments and am eagerly anticipating next week’s episode…just not a whole lotta Sasha.)

And I just now realized that, on top of everything else, I forgot to post the Glamarazzi links for this week.

Can I just fast forward to Friday?

Save me from myself!! ...not…

Just a little note to all the folks who comment, email, or tweet to me telling me that this or that company, from whom I purchase product, repackages/resells some of their products:

You’re not telling me anything I hadn’t figured out, on my own, over a year ago (and then confirmed just under a year ago). And yet I still will buy from these various companies if they have something that I like. For me, it’s not about buying “artisanal” or “original”. It’s about “what do I want” versus “what I don’t already have and can’t find elsewhere for a lower price”.

When computers don’t recognize themselves any more…

So - well. My latest BE order arrived - Organza, Nurture, and Drift - but I can’t upload any photos because my desktop computer died. It was running lovely, lovely, Windows XP. And while I have the disk, when I tried reinstalling the OS on a brand-spanking-new hard drive, the OS couldn’t find the hard drive. So I’m running off of my laptop computer which uses the hideous beast Windows Vista. All of my software - my HTML editing software, my graphics software, my spreadsheet software, EVERYTHING - is Windows XP versions.

Dammit.

It’s been lovely, but I have to scream now

I love it when a product or service is better, or cooler, or neater, than I expected. A nail polish that has a hint of duochrome. An eye color that has subtle hints of iridescence or sparkle that aren’t readily apparent. A lip or cheek color that looks brighter and has more depth than the photos or text description lead me to believe.
