The brother is gone back home, my house is somewhat back in order, and I have a few days’ worth of pictures to post. But I can at least get today’s look posted. I’ve gotten rather accustomed to using five and six colors in a look. Now, two or three colors seems somehow…incomplete. (I’ve also found that I’m more easily able to create a look that uses an odd number of colors, as opposed to an even number, where I have to get a bit creative with placement.) The odd things you learn…

I’ve spent the better part of the past two days…slowly going nuts. I’m worrying that I’m going to have to do something drastic, because all of a sudden the makers of this software are limiting how many sites one can run off of a single installation…and the latest version has been giving me fits trying to get the “old” method to work.

So yesterday finished off most of the heavy lifting, and included a fat lot of manual editing. Today I’ve got more manuual editing, a software upgrade, and then…more site tweaks. (Or possibly very few site tweaks. One hopes for the latter, but realistically expects the former. Why that customer had to have -=that=- particular piece of software upgraded so rampantly, I’ll never know.)

I’ve spent all day yesterday, and will spend most of today, fighting with software. The product I use to power this site - and my other 10 sites, business and personal - released a major upgrade, rewriting the program from scratch. This means that it will work better, but it also means that after I performed the backup and upgrade, I had to reinstall and reconfigure all my plugins, troubleshoot why half my sites weren’t working at all, get those working, fuss with the new software (which has been dramatically reorganized) and figure out where things were hidden now, and triplecheck to make sure everything was working. And once that was done, I started working on my “hobby” sites…like this one. The photo-gallery module has been removed (apparently because there wasn’t a whole lot of demand for it) and so now everyone who had used that module extensively is either staying with the old version of the software, or scrambling to find workarounds. I’ve been working to make the gallery-links into simple popup windows with the larger images (have to manually edit Every. Single. Entry. Ugh!!) but I kind of liked the convenience of having all my colors organized and displayed. Maybe I’ll install Coppermine…
I spend the rest of the day troubleshooting software, tweaking the site (it may go down or start acting wonky…in fact, Beauty Blogs’ Backstage is already a bit borked, after the last major server tweak on Friday evening), wearing my warpaint. (Rather subdued as far as warpaint goes…but that’s me.)

I’ve had family visiting and staying in the room downstairs for the past two weeks. They’ve been gone most days, but still…I can’t do all my regular stuff because their schedules are essentially rotated 6 hours off of mine. They go to bed much later, they wake up much later. Watching my DVDs and recorded shows in the mornings? Pretty much totaled. Doing my laundry, and hang-drying all my stuff in the doorways? Also scrambled, since three of the doorways are in active use. It’s nice that they have their own area, so they can sleep and I don’t have to tiptoe through my own living room. They are neat, we’re all polite, and they’ve been working -=hard=-...and will be again when they come back in a month. Still…it’s going to be kind of nice to have my own space again.
