EoTD: Christmas in July?

I’ve been adamantly resisting using red and green together in a look because I thought it would look “too Christmassy”. Today I said, “who cares? I’ve got greens to use up!!” and did a red-and-green look. With white.

Today has already started warmer…but there’s a bit of a breeze. Tomorrow we may have temperatures in the low 90s before dropping back down to the mid-80s for a few days. Not only is summer here, we can haz a heatwave. (A small, modest, demure, shortlived one. One that’s almost apologetic.)

Look: By The Donzerly Light

Happy Independence Day, US-ians! The look name is a mondegreen (misheard lyrics) from the Star Spangled Banner. I’m patriotic, in that I think that there are some good reasons for paying taxes and that servicepeople should be respected for the jobs they do and that everyone who has the legal right should educate themselves and vote in as many elections possible (even the local ones, which so many people seem to think “don’t count”.) I also believe that universal health care should be part of that whole “promote the general welfare” thing; I think that anyone should have the right to marry or divorce whomever they please as long as the other party is of the age of consent and…well, consents [which is code for “I support gay marriage”- NOH8!!!]; I think that public schooling is very important and highest-quality education and critical thinking skills should be provided (part of both “common defense” and “general welfare”, in my eyes), largely so that we continue to have an intelligent, mentally nimble voting populace; I believe that all adult citizens should have the exact same rights and responsibilities; I believe that individuals should think about how deeply they get themselves into debt (because suddenly that $200 set of dishes ends up costing you nearly twice that, with all the interest and late fees and soforth) and that our government should -=really=- think before it gets future generations so deeply into debt. I wish it was possible for us to have something like The Vigil, because the idea of a group of utterly neutral, completely informed ombudsmen is damn cool (and currently unattainable; but one can hope.) I wonder why we’re getting into wars - excuse me, police actions - in foreign countries and then trying so hard to keep people from finding out the facts about the conflicts; I wonder why our culture is now under lock and key for three human generations (75 years), effectively disenfranchising us from our own culture and criminalizing those who want to add their two bits; I wonder how the patent system got so forked up - to the other extent - that legal practices like patent trolls exist and flourish. I think that corporations are not “citizens”, and should not be allowed to donate as much as they want in elections or have any other special privileges (or rights - because, again, they’re not “citizens”, they’re not people.) I think all religions should be on equal footing, and that equal footing should not include being anywhere involved with our government.

And now that everyone’s blood is boiling, and I’ve been targeted by the tea baggers for comment spamming and by the radical liberals for flaming, on to today’s look. Shall we?
