BareMinerals’ Putting On The Glitz kit

BE’s holiday kits tend to be hit or miss, for me. I’ve also noticed that every year, BE seems to be on a different “color kick”. Last year it was green and purple; the year before that, browns (but no surprise, as it seems like every other year is a BE brown-stravaganza.) This year seems to be purple and yellow, or purple and peach. The respective holiday kits at Sephora, at Ulta, and at boutiques contains one purple and one gold or peach eyecolor.

BareMinerals’ Putting On The Glitz kit

This kit contained:

  • Glamtastic — peachy gold shimmer
  • Glitz — medium-deep violet sparkle
  • Gorgeous blush — sheer medium magenta-pink sheen
  • Luxe Radiance — sheer gilded pink apricot sheen
  • Perky lipgloss — semisheer peach-rose creme
  • 5 pm eyeliner — blackened plum
  • Toasted Almond primer shadow — light brown matte
  • black mascara (Flawless Definition Volumizing)
  • double-ended cheek and eye brush
  • clutch

The eyecolors look very pretty - medium pigmentation, and a good deal of sparkle in the purple. I like both the blush and the radiance. The eyeliner...eh, I can take or leave it. The primer shadow is a decent neutral-ish shade, though it does not work for me as a primer (I have to wear a real primer under it, so I often just pitch my BE primer shadows unless the color is amazingly unique like Urban Vibe's duochrome green/purple.) I now have far more tubes of that damn Volumizing mascara than I will ever ever use. (And why don't they make a waterproof formula, hm? Then maybe I'd actually get some use out of all their mascaras!!) I was originally very excited to see another Pretty Amazing lip color...until I got the kit, read the description, and found that it was a sheer gloss like Sass and Oomph rather than a full-color item like Allure, Rouge, or Vivacious. (Bah. Okay, there's another item for the sweepstakes box.) The brush was immediately thrown out, as those double-ended things are fairly well useless. Same with the clutch, because I am not a clutch collector - not even costly ones, which this one was most definitely not.

Overall tally for this kit: four full-size items that I like, two others that I'll use semiregularly and without much difficulty, and two (possibly three) that are fairly useless to me. Considering that the kits cost $54, and there are six items that I'll get use out of - that's about $9 per item, which is less than any one of these costs retail. So while this isn't the absolute best value kit I've ever bought from BE, it didn't have so few items in it that I was wavering on getting it.
