Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

Beauty Blogs Backstage for September: Interviewing Phyrra

For this months' Beauty Blogs Backstage, I got to interview Phyrra! She's been reviewing beauty products (mostly, but not exclusively, indie makeup) for several years, and is a self-described "gamer, writer, Standard poodle lover, makeup lover." She's a gamer geek girl with a flair for rich color, and a diverse range of interests...and she's a Lexxian (you people haven't ever watched Lexx? You need to. Yes, it's silly. But that's part of the point. But I digress.) I hope to get a chance to meet her at Dragon*Con next year!!

Below are my questions and Phyrra's answers. You'll be able to read her interview of me over at her site.

  1. Do you remember how you got into makeup?
I remember starting to wear makeup in 7th or 8th grade because I was in Drama club. It started me towards wearing heavy foundation that I applied with a sponge to make myself look really pale, and dark purple or red eye shadow.
  1. What's your One True HG beauty product that you haven't yet found? Hair care, skin care, makeup item, whatever.
Since I've only found a few HG products (Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Pixie Epoxy and Meow's Pampered Puss foundation), I'm always on the lookout for more. I'd really love to find the perfect night time moisturizer that renews my skin, gives it good 'skin food' and helps it to feel perfectly moisturized and not oily in the mornings.
  2. You're constantly on the lookout for a "better vanity". If money were no object, and you had the ability to create any makeup storage you could...what would you commission?
This is a great question! I'm glad you've asked! I would commission a vanity in black with brushed silver metal accents and a matching vanity seat. I'd want the central part of the vanity to be comfortable for me to use to apply my eye makeup. I would like for this center section to have one drawer. On either side of this center section I would love to have 10 or 12 drawers on each side for me to store and organize my makeup. I'd want a very modern design with clean lines.
  3. What was your most memorable "makeup mistake" - product choice, application, combination, whatever? As a semi-related second part, do you have a most memorable "lucky mistake" (great discovery, new trick, et cetera)?
Oh god, when I paired MAC Coppering with MAC Flip, it looked AWFUL on me. I can't go that warm.
  4. You've colored your hair frequently, and even have a great post telling people how to take their hair color safely - and well - from one color-extreme to the other. What's been your least favorite (for you) hair color? What about least favorite (again, for you) coloring product?
My least favorite coloring product was when I tried to use Beyond the Zone's blue shade, which just didn't want to stick in my hair. My least favorite color was when I once let my stylist in California talk me into coloring my hair a copper red instead of a burgundy red. When I saw my reflection in the mirror I burst into tears and couldn't stop crying. My stylist felt awful so had me come back in 3 days to fix it.
  5. Was this your first blog? If not, are the others still active? (No need to share URLs unless you want to.)
OK, so I started out as decorative.diva on blogspot. I made the name change to fresco.phyrra because Phyrra wasn't available on blogspot. Then back in May I bought Phyrra.net again, and transitioned from blogger to Wordpress.

Before doing beauty blogging, I blogged on livejournal in a personal journal.
  6. Why a standard poodle?
I wanted a standard poodle after lots of research on dogs. I needed a dog that was hypoallergenic because of allergy concerns. I wanted a smart dog that would be easy to train. I wanted a large dog because I prefer larger breeds. I wanted a good watch dog that was sweet natured. Phaedra is all of this and more. She's my perfect companion. She comes to work with me, hangs out with me when I swatch or do tutorials for my blog, and is pretty much inseparable from my side.
