Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Elusive (205)

I wanted this shade the instant I saw the first promo pictures! A slightly more summery pink that manages not to be neon-bright? Definitely going in my collection! I don't know that I have any colors exactly like this one - I have more fuchsia-pinks, and some (a very few) coralish reds. But nothing that's this shade or really very close to it.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the lip color in the tube; top right, the color applied over bare skin, to better show the shade; and below, the color applied to the lips.

I do love the shade. I just wish that it had better staying power (or that, possibly, it was a Matte BalmStain instead of just a matte-finish balm.) It looks a little rough in my photo, but that's my lips rather than the balm itself. There's a similar effect with just about any matte lipstick - if your lips aren't smoothly exfoliated, it's a lot more visible.

I can get about two or three hours of wear-time before this needs a touch-up. And yes, this is inexpensive, so it's not as if I begrudge every last drop of product. But…dang it, Revlon! After the BalmStains, you couldn't give the Matte Balms longer-lasting color as well?

There were a few changes to the packaging, too. The color names are no longer etched into the side of the tube, like they were with the BalmStains. They're on stickers on the bottoms of the tube. I prefer having the name on the side of the tube, both for durability and for easy readability. I'm older than 35, my eyesight is starting to get to the point where I need reading glasses when I've got a novel in hand. The tiny print that's on many cosmetics is nigh-on indecipherable. It is nice that the tubes for the Matte Balms have a matte-ish finish, so that I can quickly tell which finish a particular shade has. It's also not the kind of finish that's going to pick up dirt easily - so yay for good packaging.

But…no colorstain for the Colorstays? Come on, Revlon. You have a really good thing going here. You not only beat Tarte's price handily, you outperformed their product! And then you went…to this? Seriously, I'd like to know if it's something to do with having the matte finish, that means we can't have the color stain.
