Swatching all the new Buxom lip polishes - so you don’t have to

In 2014, the Buxom lip polish lineup was entirely revamped. Several core colors remained, a few went away, and the line expanded.

A lot.

What had formerly been a lineup of 20 (if you only counted the regularly-available-for-individual-purchase) or 50 (if you also counted the kit shades) or 60 (if you also counted the full-color Buxoms) suddenly grew…to 100 lip polishes. That doesn't count the lip glosses (shimmer finish, semisheer, no tingle) or lip creams (cream finish). The stores that have a Buxom display generally only have 20 available on-site, and those 20 never change. So how are you supposed to know what the new colors look like?

Start watching this site in June, that's how.

Swatching all the new Buxom lip polishes - so you don’t have to

I love the Buxom lip polishes. I have ever since I tried my first one. I liked many of the kit-exclusives from the previous lineup and was hopeful when the collection was revamped - but it looks like not all of them made the cut. Additionally, lots of the previous clues that we used to have about finish or opacity are gone. The “diamond” gals' artwork had visual clues to tell us that they were, in fact, sparkle-finishes, and the “babes” were generally wearing everyday wear. The “sheer” Buxoms' artwork - the original lineup, not counting the various kits' shades - had gals dressed in lingerie or swimwear. The full-color shades' artwork gals were wearing full outfits. It was a fairly decent system, and it worked quite nicely. The new lineup has pretty much abandoned that. (I found that out when I bought Patricia and found out that she's basically a super-sheer pink “topper”/effects color, even though her artwork shows a fully-clothed “buxom babe.”)

I've identified about 40 of the lineup that I already own, because those “core” polishes were brought in from the first collection. Then I identified about 20 others that I knew I wanted to try, and another 20 that I thought I might like to try if I got the chance to get them in a kit. The remaining 20 are colors that I wouldn't work really hard to get ahold of, but if I was able to use points to get them essentially for free, or if they came out in a kit and subsequently were available on Ebay…okay, sure, I'd get those too. I don't currently own all the ones I want to own yet, but I do own most of them, and so I'm ready to kick this series off!!

Every Sunday starting on June 5th 2016 (after my BEHistoric series is done), I'll be posting swatches and reviews of two of the new Buxom Lip Polishes. I'll keep going until I've posted every one that I own. Keep track of my site tag “BBNewGirls” to see the new writeups as they're posted.

So far, I've swatched:

Allison, Andrea, Angela, Ava, Brianna, Brittany, Brooke, Carolline, Cassandra, Chloe (II), Christina, Courtney, Debbie, Elizabeth, Ella, Emily, Emma, Erin, Evelyn, Grace, Hailey, Heather, Isabella, Jacqueline, Jane, Jasmine, Jennifer, Jessica, Jennifer, Julie, Karen, Katherine, Kayla.

There are some shades I won't buy, because I really don't care for them, and thus don't want to spend money on them. (A few of these, I highly suspect are so similar to v1-lineup colors, I don't want to duplicate-purchase the shade.) If people want to chip in, though, and earmark their contributions for the Buxom Lip Polishes, I'll buy and swatch these also:

  • Abigail
  • Alexis
  • Alyssa
  • Amanda
  • Amy
  • Anna
  • Ashley
  • Kimberly
  • Mary
  • Melanie
  • Melissa
  • Samantha

Please don't buy the colors off of Ebay and send them to me. I bought some full-size Buxom Lip Polishes from two different vendors, and they were not authentic Buxom lip polishes. The scent and the texture were wrong, and there was no menthol-tingle that all the Buxom lip polishes have. I did get full refunds, but the sellers cancelled the transactions afterward so I couldn't leave reviews warning people. I'll still buy the minis if I know that they've recently been released in a kit, but I will not buy the full-size Buxom Lip Polishes off of Ebay any more. I want to make sure that the swatches I provide folks are what they'll actually receive when they buy from either Sephora or Ulta. (Also, I really don't want "lip polishes" that feel like petroleum jelly and smell like birthday cake.)
