Tarte’s Lipsurgence in Pouty

Tarte’s Lipsurgence in Pouty

I’d almost call this a watermelon-berry…there’s a brightness to it that I’ve seen in lots of other “watermelon” shades. (And I’ve gotten in the habit of having a cup of fresh-cut fruit for lunch every day, so I’ve seen lots of chunks of watermelon lately!) There is just the faintest shimmer to it - not much, it’s almost more of a “glossy-look” than an actual shimmer finish, but it is there. I wish...

My Pretty Zombie’s Pre-nup

My Pretty Zombie’s Pre-nup

This is not the best pink I've ever come across. It's an attractive enough color, but it isn't dreadfully unique, and its pigmentation is a little on the lighter side of average. Shiro's /kiss(Ditto) is a very similar shade, and has better color payoff. This was not available for individual purchase, but was part of the Geekily Ever After set. I don't recall exactly when the set was no longer available; I just know that it wasn't when I...

Aromaleigh v2’s Antares

Aromaleigh v2’s Antares

Yes, I'm just getting around to swatching these colors now, when they're totally utterly unavailable for purchase. (I know. I'm a horrible, awful person.) On the plus side of things, I can tell you that other indies have occasionally come out with slightly similar shades. I think one of Meow's Egyptian Treasures colors is similar, but blackened; and I think one of their Christmas collections has a red that's a much closer match. True, those aren't available right now…but...

Fyrinnae’s Red Panda

Fyrinnae’s Red Panda

A cinnabar-red with light silver shimmer. I wasn't too sure how this would work for me - if it would be too orange a red, without the depth, and so not look quite like I hoped. Luckily the shade has enough depth that it looks like either a deep orange or almost a “harvest red.” There's a reason this shade looks like a fox's coat, by the way. The “red panda” is a species of fox, and is sometimes called...

Zoya’s Rory

Zoya’s Rory

I was only mildly worried that this might end up being an icy pink, because this is the complement to Shelby - which is a lighter pink than Lara, but definitely isn't an “icy” shade.

Zoya’s Zuza

Zoya’s Zuza

Remember how I mentioned that Reagan was a surprise? Well, Zuza is the surprise from the Surf collection. Sadly, it's not an entirely pleasant surprise. This color is a very intense bold aqua-green. It's a bit too vivid for my personal preferences. And it's a glass fleck, which means it's unsuitable for nail stamping. (Well…into every life a little rain must fall. Mine is aqua-colored.) The application was a little bit uneven on my middle fingernail, but I think...

Zoya’s Reagan

Zoya’s Reagan

Yes, this is vaguely similar to Zoya's Areej, from last summer's collection. Reagan is a bit cooler, though. It's a creme finish, and it covers completely with two coats. (I could probably have gotten one-coat coverage had I applied the polish a little thicker, but…I'm cautious.) I initially thought the color would be a bit too purple for my preferences; but when I saw others' photos of their Reagan manicures I was satisfied that it leaned more pink than...

China Glaze’s Colors from the Capital collection

China Glaze’s Colors from the Capital collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

Originally this was going to be called “Capitol Colors” Pictures of the proposed shades began showing up on the Internet. Then came The Drama. The studio behind the film tried to deny involvement with any such collection, China Glaze’s parent company American International Industries sued them for breach of contract, there was much fingerpointing from all sides…the upshot is that the Capitol Colors collection, which was originally going to be themed just around the Capitol City with its...

Shiro Cosmetics’ Tributes collection

Shiro Cosmetics’ Tributes collection

Posted on Tuesday, at

Shiro’s collections tend to cover a good color range, even if they stick with a tone (brights, greyed, softer…) This collection doesn’t stick with one of those themes, so much. There aren’t many “light” colors, though Baker’s Boy and Wildflowers do come close. (Going solely on the photos, I think Wildflowers might be a near-substitute for the now-discontinued Clefairy and Vileplume. Hopefully it won’t meet a similar fate.) There are a few metallics, some blackened...

Everyday Minerals’ Christmas Carol

Everyday Minerals’ Christmas Carol

Posted on Monday, at

One of three eyeshadows in the Snow Angels holiday kit...which, I admit, I got primarily for the blushes (which are both gorgeous on me, by the way.) This color actually looks quite different when applied dry versus foiled - foiling gives a deeper, dusty-moss-sage shade. This color has decent payoff, but it definitely looks better and adheres longer if applied over a damp primer.
