Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Mainline

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Mainline

This pencil was the primary reason I got interested in the Smoked collection. It's a gorgeous teal-blue shade that doesn't seem to appear all that often in makeup - not for nails, nor eyeshadows, nor eyeliners. I don't know if that's because there's less perceived demand for this shade, it's cyclical/a trend-only color (unlike classics like navy, dark brown, deep green, or dark purple) or if it has been available and I just haven't noticed it. Coverage is very...

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Empire

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Empire

One of the shades that was newly added to the regular lineup. Empire was previously released in the Smoked kit. The color doesn't seem to be totally opaque on one pass, but going over your lash line a second time will take care of that. This is described as a matte, on Urban Decay's site; but I see very faint shimmer when this is applied. This color is cooler, and not as “smoked” as the other pencils that were in...

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Demolition

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Eye Pencil in Demolition

From what I can tell, this color was part of the regular lineup for quite a while. It's a matte brown, fairly dark, so it's a pretty good “basic” eyeliner. I have some difficulties getting good coverage out of it, though! It doesn't apply as darkly as I'd like, over bare skin; and even over primer, I have to try layering it. There are other brown pencils in the 24-7 collection. This is the darkest brown shade in the entire...

Urban Decay’s 24-7 Glide On Eye Pencil collection

Urban Decay’s 24-7 pencils do get quite a lot of love. They’re available in a wide range of colors, including hot pink and gold and bright green. They’re soft, easy to apply, and they tend to stay put even on hooded eyes. Other makeup companies do make liners, even waterproof liner pencils, but none have the color range, ease of application AND staying power that Urban Decay’s 24-7 pencils do. The 24-7 pencils get a lot...

Maybelline’s Blue On By Color Tattoo cream shadow

Maybelline’s Blue On By Color Tattoo cream shadow

This is another of the limited-edition Summer 2012 releases, and the one that had the best color payoff. This is a really vibrant blue! I don't love using it as an all-over color (personal preference), but as a bold liner shade it's excellent. I can easily see other people really rocking this shade of cream shadow all over their lid, though. It applies a bit better when you dot or stipple it into place, or build in thin layers. Once it's...

Maybelline’s Fuchsia Fever Color Tattoo cream shadow

Maybelline’s Fuchsia Fever Color Tattoo cream shadow

I would so dearly love to have a fuchsia eye shadow or base. The color would accentuate my blue-grey eyes, whether it was all over the lid or just used as an accent color along the lash line. I had hopes when I heard about this one, but kind of gave those up when I started seeing the photos. It's a cooler shade, nearly a Sterno-purple. And it's another semi-sheer color. It's more easily buildable than Test My Teal, and...

Disclosures First off, the changes to the FTC disclosures which have had bloggers doing a bit of housekeeping for the past few weeks. Since April 2012 I've had a link at the top of each product-review post that either says "bought", "gift", or "PR." Click any of those links, and you'll get a popup window with full text telling you that I either bought the item(s) in question, received it as a gift from family/friends, or that received it...

Maybelline’s Test My Teal Color Tattoo cream shadow

Maybelline’s Test My Teal Color Tattoo cream shadow

Part of the Summer 2012 limited edition release. These were available first in Canada and the UK, and then in the US. This color is a beautiful-looking blue, just a bit deeper than Tenacious Teal. It would make a great liner if you wanted something bolder than navy, but perhaps not quite as vivid as Tenacious Teal. Unfortunately, this shade doesn't have the greatest color payoff. It's very difficult to build, too, so you can't really get the color depth that...

Maybelline’s Bold Gold Color Tattoo cream shadow

Maybelline’s Bold Gold Color Tattoo cream shadow

This is an attractive color, but not one that I picked up right away. I was more interested in the orange, the teal, the bold green..! My only issue with this one is that I wish it applied a bit more smoothly. I can get better results when I pat or lightly stipple it on, instead of trying to sweep it across the lid. I find myself using this below my lower lash line, or on the outer vee as...

A hot pink for people who either don't feel super-comfortable in hot pink; or who don't work in environments that will let them rock the hot pink lip like they'd prefer. This color is definitely one of the more persistent stains in this collection! Don't wear it if you have to wear a nude lip the next day (seriously: don't. It most definitely does stain, you'll need at least a day and mild exfoliation to completely get rid of the...
