NYX Cosmetics’ Faux Blacks eyeliner in Obsidian

The darker of the two obviously-blue liners in the Faux Blacks collection. This is similar to the dark-blue liner shades available in many collections. It almost leans just a little towards purple. This was one of the least-cooperative pencils, in terms of formula and ease of application. The product seemed like it had dried out a bit, or was less soft and more difficult to work with.

White frost-finish that tends to want to apply a bit chunkily. The application choices were either very sparse, like a subtle highlight; or clumped and chunked up but looking like a somewhat-opaque white eyeshadow.

I was lucky enough to get this and a handful of other shadows when they were re-released briefly in early summer of 2017. Baby Beluga was at one point (I think) called Beluga Whale. It’s a pale greyed blue - or a pale cool grey. It depends on the lighting, and surrounding colors, and possibly planetary alignment, though I can’t really reliably test that last one.

This is almost the exact color of wet cement! The formula was a little on the thicker side, and tended to want to hang on to brushstrokes - not too usual to see in a creme polish. The coverage was good, though, and the nail polish is pretty durable. I’ve seen nail-stamping that uses a medium-deep grey over a pastel-to-medium-light gradient…this would be pretty good for that. When Meow’s new matte collections came out, I was…dubious. The brighter color palette was somewhat interesting, but I was more concerned with the shadows themselves. Meow’s matte formula applies well if you use some kind of mixing medium (water, alcohol, whatever) but applied dry, even over a sticky base, tends to work less well.
