Sigil Inspired’s Born in Crocus

Sigil Inspired’s Born in Crocus

Lighter, slightly greyed purple base with green-gold shimmer layer. The color applies easily and the pigmentation levels are good. The duotone effects show up in any light, but show up best on a curved surface (like many duotone shadows.)

Wet n Wild’s Megaglo Highlighter palette

Wet n Wild’s Megaglo Highlighter palette

Posted on Tuesday, at

I bought this when I saw that it had three colors not in the regular Megaglo collection. The highlighters are full-size, meaning that the palette itself is slightly larger than a paperback book. (Though not nearly as thick.) The packaging is not the most durable - I’m not a huge fan of cardboard palette packaging unless it’s very very small - but there’s a clear fitted “cover” over the colors, inside the “lid”, so while it isn’...

TKB Trading’s Brown Oxide

TKB Trading’s Brown Oxide

This flirts with being a warmish color, but it’s neutral enough that I can wear it without the color clashing (ever so gently) with my undertones. This is a straight colorant with minimal other ingredients, so it needs special application to go on and stay on. This can work as an eyeshadow or face color. It might work as a brow color, though you’d probably want at least a clear gel to hold the color in place.

Tarte Cosmetics’ Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler

Tarte Cosmetics’ Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler

Posted on Saturday, at

I first bought this back in 2009. I hadn’t regularly used eyelash curlers before that point because I had too many incidents of accidentally ripping out my own lashes when my hand would slip on the grips. Not to mention pinching my eyelids or the skin behind my eyes while trying to get as close to the roots of my lashes as possible…well, eyelash curling just didn’t impress me as something I really wanted to keep doing. (I...

Kiko Cosmetics’ Smart Colour Mascara in Jungle Green

Kiko Cosmetics’ Smart Colour Mascara in Jungle Green

Posted on Friday, at

These Smart Colour mascaras remind me of the old CoverGirl Exact EyeLights. Many of them have a blackened undertone, and a slight tint of color that’s not overtly visible but nonetheless is still present and detectable. The formula is a little thin, and the brush definitely helps separate and define my lashes. I find that I get results that I like best if I either apply two or three coats, or if I apply a single coat over a...

Shiro Cosmetics’ Mermaid You Look

Shiro Cosmetics’ Mermaid You Look

Take the COTM color TARDIS and take away most of the shimmer, and you get this lagoon-blue. The color is more intense when it’s applied wet, and the shimmer tends to be less even and a bit more visible than when it’s applied dry. I prefer using this as an eyeliner. The blue is bold without being a heavily saturated color, so while it does blend, it tends to sheer out a bit.

Zoya’s Mona

The first time I wore this color I totally fell in love with the shade! It wasn’t what I expected, and I’d still like to find a darker brick-red creme; but the shade looks amazing on me. The brown tones are much stronger than the vendor representation hints at. This is a rich oxblood red that applies very smoothly and lasts a long time. The polish is very durable, and it’s thick enough that I could easily...

This polish is a bit less greyed than I thought it would be, but it isn't a straightforward pastel blue. It also wasn't quite as pigmented as I would have liked. With two coats, you can see some thinner spots where the color isn't fully opaque. I like the finish, and the polish is pretty durable once it's in place. I just wish that it had better pigmentation.

Real Techniques’ Travel Essentials brush set

Real Techniques’ Travel Essentials brush set

Posted on Tuesday, at

One of the “original” brush sets from Real Techniques 1.0 is still being sold in almost the exact same format. Only the slipcase is different. When I bought mine, it was on deep discount at the nearby drugstore because the old line was being phased out; but the brushes still work just fine. It doesn’t have many brushes, but they’re a solid assortment: one eye brush, one foundation/concealer brush, and a multi-tasker.
