Makeup Revolution Colour Books: yea or nay?

Makeup Revolution Colour Books: yea or nay?

The first is that “pressed pigments” bit. That means that, despite these looking like the more common eyeshadows-in-pans-and-palettes, they don’t contain binders, so you won’t get longevity without some additional precautions. They also don’t blend as well as proper eyeshadows - you can learn to apply these and work with them to get similar results as you’d get from traditional eyeshadows, but if you don’t keep that in mind, working with these colors could be...

NYX Cosmetics’ Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Lavender Lust

NYX Cosmetics’ Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Lavender Lust

This was the first of these that I bought. I knew that I’d be using it a lot! This is actually one of my go-to brow highlighters (the other two being Pinkie Promise and Chardonnay Shimmer), though I do use it as a cheek highlighter occasionally. On the upside, this is a lovely shade for me. The purple complements my coloring very nicely. On the downside, it is a waxy base that doesn’t blend easily with powder blushes.

Color Club’s Spell It Out

Color Club’s Spell It Out

I’ve got several holographic polishes - most of them from Color Club - but none with this base shade! I love this particular vivid color of blue. This polish applies very easily, with full opacity in two coats. This is a scattered holographic rather than the smoother linear, smoother rainbow effect. But for me, the base color is the main attractant.

Colourpop’s Orchid You Not kit

These kits were a good way to acquire multiple Blush and Lite Stix. They do coordinate, so if you elect to wear two of the items together - even the two blushes - they won’t clash. These are creme sticks, and they’re on the heavier side. You don’t have to press hard to get the highlighters to show up, but the blushes are definitely sheer. They stay blendable for a while after initial application. I was most...

CND Vinylux’s Crystal Alchemy collection

CND Vinylux’s Crystal Alchemy collection

This collection was a partnership with Swarovski Crystals, for CND’s 50th birthday. That said, I would have expected a little more sparkle from these colors. Instead, while they’re all lovely shades, Rebellious Rub) required 4 coats for full opacity. This is not something I would have expected, especially since the social-media photos of these colors all demoed them as fully opaque.

Notoriously Morbid’s Dead Dates

Notoriously Morbid’s Dead Dates

A darker red, more the color of dried blood than a wintery red…which is apppropriate, since this was part of a Halloween collection. The sparkle is very widely distributed, so it’s more of a sporadic highlight than a full sparkle finish. The color does lose a little bit of its intensity when applied versus when in the pot; but not much.

Sephora’s Professional Mineral Powder Brush #45

Sephora’s Professional Mineral Powder Brush #45

Posted on Friday, at

I bought this because a friend of mine - a former beauty blogger who’s since turned to other ventures - absolutely loved this brush for applying her foundation. I tried it for both powder and liquids, and it does work very nicely as a buffing brush. I wish that it hadn’t been discontinued! I have found that Nyx’s Multipurpose Buffing Brush is a good near-dupe, though, and it has NOT been discontinued.
