BareMinerals’ Dakota

This color is perfect for someone like me, who likes some of the effects of the smoky eye but prefers the colors a bit lighter (which, some would argue, defeats the purpose of the smoky eye - but no, I don't agree). It has the smoky color without the “sooty” residue that some darker colors can have; and it provides contouring and shading without being overbearing.

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the eyeshadow in the pot; top right, the eyeshadow mixed with water and applied to bare skin; bottom left, the eyeshadow applied dry over primer.

This color was originally released as part of the Puppy Love kit, and was all but impossible to find after that since it wasn't released in any other BE kit. It was very briefly available at boutiques, but most of the hardcore collectors soon depleted that supply. I got my pots when some collectors began selling their hoards off piecemeal, either because of the poor economy or - in at least one case - a woman who simply decided to get rid of her huge BE collection. As of late fall 2010, Dakota is again available for individual purchase - through the webstore if not from your local boutique. BE classes this color as a “plum”...which I find odd; but this isn't the first time we've disagreed over a color's classification.
