BareMinerals’ Drop Red Gorgeous kit

Initially I wasn’t too sure about this kit. Then I decided, what the heck. It’s got Strength eyecolor, which looks interesting; I’d like to try Strength lip color just to see if I can pull off bright red lips; charcoal eyeliner pencils look good on me, and BE’s Big and Bright eyeliners are somewhat decent, the shadow brush is one I kind of like…so there’s four pieces that I’m interested in. Let’s give it a shot.

BareMinerals’ Drop Red Gorgeous kit

This kit contained:

  • Strength —
  • Virtue — iridescent pink sheen
  • Big and Bright eyeliner in Charcoal — grey-black creme
  • Pretty Amazing Lipcolor in Strength — vivid bold red creme
  • Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara in Black

I do like Strength (the eyecolor). It's a deep browned taupe shimmer with some multicolored sparkle, but not too much - so it's fairly versatile. It's not "just another brown." Virtue...virtue is okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing hideous, and there's not tons of color payoff but there's a nice highlighting effect. It isn't something that I'll try to get more of, though. I have found that I cannot rock a red lip. My teeth are, alas, the teeth of a two-decade daily coffee drinker, and I don't care to drop the caffeine habit nor do I care overly much about getting my teeth bleached so that I can rock an arrest-me red lip. (I'll happily stick with softer berry and mauve shades, and leave the bright reds to them as love the shade.) The eyeliner is nice, though I found that I already had this color in my stash. I need more of that dang mascara like I need a hole in my head, and the shelters won't accept the tubes because they aren't sealed. Plus...it isn't water proof!! Even if I loved it, I get racoon-eyes after wearing any non-waterproof mascara for more than three hours.

If you don't have any of these items already, or you do have a few and love them and don't mind backups, this kit is a decent value: five fullsize items which, at retail, would cost well over $80? Definitely a cost-saver. And if you love pink eyeshadows, Virtue currently isn't available anywhere else (though I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up this spring.)
