Eyelash curlers are…well, they are. Some people love them, other people dislike them, lots of people are kind of mystified by them, and a friend of mine referred to them as “the medieval torture device” when I gifted her one in a huge box of makeup. I think it's safe to say that there's kind of a love-hate dynamic going on: yes, they can really help make your lashes stand out; but get the wrong ones and not only can they pinch horribly, they can slip in your grasp and rip half your lashes out.
Don't ask me how I know that. I'm still suffering traumatic stress.
In my first year of beauty-blogging, I picked up Tarte's EcoEyes kit. It included a few products I wanted to try out…which didn't include the eyelash curler. (I was interested in the cream shadow and the eye pencil!) I tried the eyelash curler anyway, and was very pleasantly surprised.
Tarte's eyelash curler is excellent for me. It conforms to my eye shape so that I get my whole lash curled, it doesn't pinch my lid, and it doesn't slip. Yay, no tearing!! The bars are two hollow tubes, rather than harder rubber bars, which gives me better curl without looking like a harsh crease. And I've been using mine for two years now, and haven't had to replace the bars yet. (Though part of that is probably due to my curling my lashes only before I apply my mascara, and not afterward. I've wiped down the cushion-bars, but haven't had to use anything more abrasive to keep the surfaces clean.)
