BBAC 2013, Day 24: My beauty backlog is down by two thirds

I keep my eyeshadows and blushes in divided plastic containers from ArtBin. The eyeshadow containers hold about 90 shadows each, while the blush containers (wider and deeper columns, so four across instead of six) hold 64 blushes in 20-gram jars. When I began 2013, I had 2 1/2 blush-containers and 9 eyeshadow-containers of products waiting to be photographed and featured on the blog.

Now, my backlog is just under four eyeshadow-bins and a container-and-a-half of blushes and face powders. That's a big drop.

BBAC 2013, Day 24: My beauty backlog is down by two thirds

Part of that drop is because I bought less - so as I photographed items, I was adding to the backlog…but I wasn't adding as quickly as in 2010, 2011, or 2012. (Being unemployed for just over a quarter will do that to you. Well…that, and already owning the majority of your favorite indies' inventories.) But the big reason is that I made myself a schedule and - for the most part - stuck to it. I actually started this schedule in late 2011, but had some large time-gaps where I didn't post much. In 2013, I didn't have a week where I was posting ten items a day, then a week where nothing happened. My posting schedule stayed fairly regular. It did mean that when I'd go on a photographing spree, I had pre-scheduled posts prepped for a few months out, which is both a plus and a minus. Overall, I'll be glad to get the new products done, and going back and re-photographing and creating montages for the older products.

I've had more than a few instances where I've got a photo and write-up of a long-since discontinued product…but as I start “catching up”, I'm better able to plan, rearrange things, and try and get all the seasonal and limited-edition items swatched and posted while people can still buy them. (Meow's seasonal rotations work in their favor, since I can post swatches of, say, the Simple and Guilty Pleasures eyeshadows…knowing that if they're not available right then, they will be in a few months.)

I currently have eyeshadows photographed, and the posts prepped, through June 2014. That's without the 350-or-so additional eyeshadows I have yet to photograph. Since those eyeshadows are red, blue, purple, or brown, and since the end of June marks the end of my nice, evenly-balanced review schedule (red-orange-yellow-brown on Mondays, green-blue-purple-black on Thursdays) I'm hoping to slip individual reviews in on the slower days and weekends, and have less than 150 eyeshadows left to review once autumn officially begins. I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off, but I'm going to try. (And if I ever mention that I've got 600+ eyeshadows to review again…someone hold an intervention.)
