How many of you regularly buff and polish your nails? Not “apply nail polish”, but, you know…actually buff and polish?

BBAC 2011: Day Fourteen

I first tried this back in 2007 when I got into makeup, and was surprised in the difference it makes. I just bought one of those 4-sided sponges from Sephora (the pastel-colored one, not the one that's got black, hot pink, and bold orange), rubbed each side across my nails a few times, and instead of the dull uneven surfaces with the ridges in the thumbnails, I had nails that looked like I was wearing a clear topcoat on them. That finished look will last me for about two weeks - then I'm back to average-looking nail surfaces. I've noticed that if my nails are longer, it doesn't always work too well - I can often rip or tear a nail. (Obviously I need to work on that whole ‘delicate touch' thing.) I've also noticed that right after one of these buff-and-polish sessions, I can't wear any nail polish without a base coat - at all. The nail polish just peels right off at the slightest provocation.

I'm still not at the point where I will do this every two weeks, or even once a month. ‘Once every few months' is about how often it gets done. What about other folks? (And aside from using hand lotion every day - got any tips to take care of drying cuticles? Those drive me insane…)
