BBAC 2011: Day Twenty-Two

I am not a huge celebrater of holidays. But I do like certain aspects about Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day. Those are the times of year when all the wee tiny beauty gift kits come out to play. Sometimes, after these holidays, if you're very very lucky, you can still find these goodies at a discounted price, as stores work to clear their shelves for the next mega-consumer event (like Labor Day or Columbus Day or Tuesday.)

I'd long ago gotten a single tube of Burt's Bees lip balm, because I was having occasional dry-lip problems and specifically wanted a balm that would moisturize but also provide just a little bit of color. Burt's Bees items are a little pricey, so I contented myself with just the Hibiscus balm. But I kind of wanted to try some of the other bits. And then, when in my regional chain drugstore the other day, I spotted the Shimmer Pink kits.

For $9.99, you get three colors of their shimmer balm, in a nice-looking box with a really pretty laser-cut design on the front. Normally these shimmer balms are $5 a piece, so this is a “buy two get one free” kind of deal. And there are two packs: one with Watermelon, Rhubarb, and Champagne; and one with Fig, Peony, and Champagne. I like the ability to get multiples of the product, and I like that they made two assortments (so that if you really wanted Peony but didn't care for Rhubarb, there was one that would work better for you.) I kind of wish that both boxes didn't contain Champagne, which is essentially a cream-shimmer balm; but…eh. I use that one when I'm staying around the house but want to keep my lips moisturized. It isn't a bad shade on me, it's just a little boring-ish.

I've only seen these at Bartell's Drug Store, which is a regional chain. I have not seen them at Walgreens, and believe me, I've looked. (Because 1) I was hopig for a sale; and 2) it seems kind of heartless to tell folks about it if they can't get it unless they live in the Pacific Northwest. But there you go, maybe it's also in other regional stores just not the bigger chains like Walgreen's and Rite Aid and soforth.
