Beauty Blogger Challenge: week one

Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

Beauty Blogger Challenge: week one

Shatteredshards is kicking off 2011 with a weekly beauty bloggers' writing prompt/challenge. It's a bit like Beauty Blogs' Backstage, in that it gets us to share a bit about ourselves and our blog…but all the questions come from one source, they're available in advance (if you're the preplanning type), and there's no requirement about how long you've been blogging, or how frequently. Want to participate, or just find out more? Check it out!

Why did you start blogging about beauty? Do you think you would have blogged about other topics if you hadn’t started beauty blogging? Were you already blogging something else when you started?

I've had a site on the world wide web since 1994 (one of those ubiquitous horrifying Angelfire pages. My very primitive web-graphics gallery, some quotes I'd collected, geeky jokes and soforth, saved bits from USEnet, bitsam flotsam jetsam. That Angelfire site gone now. So are the ones on Tripod and Geocities. I was very very good about destroying evidence once I decided to stop just playing around), and have been blogging steadily on one site since 1998 - that's undergone a few iterations, and even got its own domain in 2001. I started my beauty blog in 2009, mostly to organize and catalog my collection.

My other blog is general-purpose: kind of a “free range blog” or “stream of conscious” blog. It's my personal stuff, utterly unrelated to any one thing except “what's going on in my life right then”. I'm about to add another subdomain for another project (I'm about to commit fanfic…if I can find the time to actually write stories around all these meta- and timeline-ideas I've got) which I don't do too often. The whole thing is currently in a “half-fast” mode because the database suicided this past summer, and I put more time into restoring this site and my business sites than into restoring my personal blog.
