Fyrinnae’s Ravishing Red Wolf

No, you're not hallucinating. Yes, this looks red in the pot and applies almost purple.

Released as part of the Endangered collection in 2012, this color…is a little confusing. It definitely looks burgundy in the pot. When I swatched this, I had to check a few times to make sure that, yes, the color I was swatching was indeed a ‘red' - at least nominally. Fyrinnae's own page notes the dual nature of this color. I didn't see the “cool pink-wine” Fyrinnae describes this color as, even when applying this dry over bare skin. (They do note that the violet-purple shows when applying this over a sticky base, most primers, or wet application.)

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the eyeshadow in the pot; top right, the eyeshadow mixed with water and applied to bare skin; bottom left, the eyeshadow applied dry over primer.

Shade-surprises aside, the coverage and color payoff is fairly good. The dry application is a little bit softened, but not significantly. I think that this might be usable as a liner if you want more of a color than deep-definition that you get with deep black or brown.

I think I may have to put a label on the outside of this color that reads “This is a purple. Do not let it fool you!!!” Or one day I'll grab it, thinking it's Monarch Butterfly or something similar, and…TOTALLY not the look I'm going for. It looks a bit like Beauty from the Earth's Sweetgum, with a bit more pigmentation and slightly warmer undertones.
