Happy Monday, everyone

Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

Happy Monday, everyone

I've got lots of unrelated thoughts ricocheting around in my head, getting in my way when I attempt to write some longer posts (some reviews, a few rants, some policies for the site, a glossary-of-sorts). In an effort to clear the plotbunnies out of my brain so I can get some SrsWriting done, here's a little cerebral download.

I don't love how Morgana Minerals has reduced the packaging size options, and effectively increased the price of their eyeshadows/eye pigments. I know it's a right bearcat to simultaneously maintain an inventory of samples, 5 gram jars, and 10 gram jars (plus the "refill baggies" she previously sold...I loved having that option.) She's streamlined, and for the 2010 collections is now only offering samples or 5 gram jars. So now instead of paying $8 for 3.5 grams, I pay $6 for 1.5 grams. Not loving that part quite so much. I can almost understand it, because the time spent putting things into the jars, labelling the jars, inserting the sifter, et cetera...is not markedly different when filling a 5-gram jar than when filling a 10-gram jar. Still...I am a little less than thrilled.

I have recently placed - and received - several orders from a certain vendor (who for now shall remain nameless.) I'd purchased from them previously, years ago. I wasn't thrilled with all of their products, and some just didn't work for me; but they had some decent blushes and a few relatively serviceable eye colors. All but one of my recent orders was placed before I found out about some of this vendor's customer service/formulation debacles. I spent the weekend digging around and assembling information, to corroborate as many details as I could. I've contacted one person asking for permission to quote them and link to them; and once I've got that I'll have a whole slew of things to post. (On the one hand I am glad that I don't have any allergies - and I did place one final "clear-out-my-wishlist-seeya" order from this company to make sure I had no more lemmings before the formulas could morph again and possibly cause me problems. On the other hand, I want to make sure to warn others about this particular bugbear. Yep, they're inexpensive...but the end costs could be higher than you imagine.)

Aromaleigh has shuttered the blog, deleted their hosted fan forum, and dramatically reduced their social media presence over this past weekend. I'm not a huge fan of the "social selling/social marketing" trend - I'm looking to buy products, not a lifestyle or an image - but I did check the blog from time to time, and was keeping up with their Countdown to Summer clearance days to see if I could snag anything that I really wanted at 50% off (I was also keeping a weather eye out for further product discontinuations, since they'd recently stopped selling all lip colors and had recently announced discontinuations of foundations, blushes/rouges, and perle powders. This, along with removing all the Rocks! cosmetics for reformulation. So, yeah, ch-ch-ch-changes.) It was a bit shocking to suddenly find all of that stuff gone...even if the website itself was still up and running fine with a notification that order turnaround had increased. Now Aromaleigh has a new Twitter account, restricted to news/sale information only; and the Countdown to Summer clearance days are proceeding apace.

After their recent non-amicable actions against online etailers, I am not in love with OPI. The disaffection was not sudden and swift, more like a sudden cool front that morphed into a freeze. Some additional information I found seems sensible at first brush, but doesn't quite check out. I'm about ready to call shenanigans and stop posting any OPI NoTWs ever, no matter how much the colors I have may make me swoon. That said...I loveloveLOVE OPI's DS Diamond. I've been wearing two coats, with no topcoat, for three days now. It's amazing!!! (For about 24 hours I wore just one coat, then decided to see how much the color would darken with a 2nd coat.) I had been mildly piqued that I missed out on getting China Glaze's Meet Me In Prism...but looking at swatch-photos of that color and comparing them to DS Diamond, maybe I didn't completely miss it after all. DS Diamond looks like a slightly more lavender dupe. So yay for that! (But OPI is still on my shit list. [And I'm sure they're quivering in their shoes over there. But still. They're On Notice.])
