I was pretty interested when I noticed these mascaras. (The collection had been out for a while, but I don’t regularly visit the Kiko website, so…I’m a bit late to the game.) The color selection wasn’t huge, but the three that are not standard mascara colors are a decent mix. I ended up buying the red, blue, and brown. The upside to these is that in addition to being colored mascara and being not too expensive, they’re waterproof. Yay!!
The downside is that they’re a gel formula, so if you wanted any volume or lengthening, these may not have been the best choice.
This is a jelly formula. This means that the mascara tended to come off on my lash line and the edge of my eyelid, but didn’t really want to stick to my lashes. Good for giving a strong impression of color and fullness along the lash line, but not so great for getting actual mascara on the lashes. The formula is not “waterproof” as much as “intensely water resistant.” I can apply this mascara and it will stay on all day, from early morning (6am) to late night (10pm) with no flaking or smudging. The next morning, though, it wipes right off with a barely-damp tissue or smudges right off when I rub my eyes to get the sleepydirt (ie, eyecrusties, rheum, gound) out of them.
The color is truly lovely: more vivid than a tint, and not blackened, but it’s definitely red, not pink. I finally got the best results by wearing one coat of this on top of one coat of my go-to waterproof mascara. The other waterproof mascara was there for lash definition, and to give the gel-formula mascara something to grab onto.
