Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

Lazy Saturday, News Roundup

I'm very ennervated this weekend. Don't know why, but there it is. The last productive thing I did, aside from activating the dishwasher this morning, was giving the cats their breakfast. I had tentative plans to go downtown to an event this weekend (partially to hang out with the gaming-folk, partially to pass out cards for my business) but I'm really just more interested in sitting around, possibly reading a book, maybe going for a walk and maybe not. I know, I know…not precisly the “go getter” attitude.

I now understand the big deal about OPI polishes, and why they cost $9 a bottle. Sure, the color range is nice; but so are lots of lines…but no chipping or peeling after two days of wear and use on my nails? With all the typing I do? That's kind of amazing. Usually by now something's chipped, or gouged, or what have you. And all of this with two coats of polish, but no top coat. (Of course that's the cue for the Nail Polish Gremlins to make with the chipping and peeling.) For the past two days I've been wearing OPI's Mermaid To Order. I was dismayed to discover that Sephora didn't have Underwater Fantasy available any more; but I did get Ocean Love Potion, Waterbaby, Blue Grotto, And Then He Said, Personal Shopper, I'm With Brad, Metro Chic, and Set The Mood. No, I did not go overboard. I did not!!!

Earlier this week I received an order from Meow Cosmetics, and while I haven't had a chance to try all the colors yet other than swatching, I'm happy with my purchases. When I received my order, I also got free samples from their just-released Egyptian Treasures line. The shadows are metallics, all in fall colors (rich reds, golds, browns, golds, muteds); and while they're very pretty, I have some metallic shades…and enough fall-colors to last me. Though Nile looks tempting. The idea of a metallic periwinkle-blue with golden sheen just sounds tempting. (I bet it would make a heck of a nail polish, too…) For folks who loved the effect of Bare Escentuals' High Shine Sand Dune, you may want to check out the latest collection from Meow. The application is very similar - even dry, you get that high-shine effect. Applied wet, the colors are breathtaking. (Must. Stop. Near to talking myself into more purchases. Gah!!)

I purchased several blush-samples from Aromaleigh. I'm not thrilled with the color payoff of the samples I received…I'd been hoping for a few deeper colors, especially among the mauved shades I chose. Then again, with blush, too dark is not necessarily desired. I can always wear a light spot of some of my uber-dark BE blushes (Compassion, Velvet, Port) with these lighter shades washed over/as the main color.

Tangenting to Bare Escentuals blushes, I recently purchased some older blush colors from their outlets. Folks (including myself) have often complained that BE's face colors are a bit on the orange side. Well, after seeing my newly-acquired Sedona and Horizon blushes, I am shutting up. Those things are deeply, seriously orange. They seriously look (in the jar) like Oompa Loompa face paint - though as blushes, they do apply more sheerly than one might expect. I'll find a way to use them, even if it isn't as a blush. (Orange does make a surprisingly good base color for blue eyes; and an interesting liner color when layered atop something like a Flashy Eye Liner pencil in black.)

And now, since I've talked about every bit of the face except lips…I nearly missed a new-ish release of a full-color Buxom lip polish at Sephora. I haven't been a fan of the full-color buxoms, mostly for the brush applicator. I don't like how they deposit so much of the product on my lips that I feel covered in axle grease. A while back the announcement came down that all new Buxoms would be going back to the doefoot applicator…and there was much rejoicing. (Well, not everywhere. Some folks are as fond of the brush applicators as I am of the doefoots, so this was not good news to them.) I hadn't tried any full-color buxoms since then, though - reasoning that I had a few, had swatched several more, and decided that they just weren't for me. And then along came Betsy. Betsy is a full-color buxom (with the doefoot applicator) that is essentially Trixie, but full color rather than sheer: golden-pink mauve with slight bits of golden shimmer, but not too much shimmer - just barely enough, less than many sheer buxoms. The description says “crimson red”, but trust me…it's not as deep a color as some might think. It's definitely pigmented, but it's not what I'd call “crimson”. If you love Trixie sheer buxom, give Betsy a look.

In other news…

I've been noodling around with color combination ideas and themes, and came up with a few that I'll be posting over the next weeks and months. Now that I've pretty much catalogued my whole collection, and gotten about 1/4 of the kits on the site, it's time to start playing.
