Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Mega Plush Waterproof Mascara

Maybelline calls this a “gel-mousse formula” mascara. It’s supposed to give volume without making the lashes crunchy. Thing is…I don’t necessarily see more volume than most mascaras that I use. The formula can make lashes a little more prone to sticking together, if you’re not careful about combing the lashes through before and possibly after application. On the up side, it does apply pretty evenly. The brush is fatter and a bit on the short side, so the lashes are in contact with the brush a goodly amount. It doesn’t flake or speckle horribly, which is a plus - this formula coats the lashes smoothly, but is thick enough that it hangs on to the lashes long enough for it to cure thoroughly, rather than transferring to your lid or face.

For those looking for a mascara that applies nice and even and stays put, this is a fairly decent choice. For people who want really amazing volume, this might not be your best shot. I don’t consciously only buy “volume” mascaras - I prefer lengthening or hybrid mascaras when I can find them - but I should think that for a volumizing mascara, I should see more…well…volume?
