If you've wanted to try Morgana's lip balms (and you should) but been just a little concerned about judging colors and wanted to pick a “safe” red to start with, this is an excellent choice. It's a softer deep red, but not sheer. It's somewhat close to Burt's Bees in Hibiscus, but Morgana's Amaranth is a warmer shade. I'm not quite seeing “tomato red”, but it's close to the deeper almost neutral-red that some tomatoes are. Mine was a little bit harder than the other balms I've received from Morgana, but it wasn't rock-hard - just firm. There is a slightly shimmery finish.
Using an opacity scale of 1 to 5 (yeah, guess where I borrowed that from?) this was about a 3.5 - a little more pigmented than one might expect from something marketed as a “tint” or a “balm”, but not as opaque as a full-on “lipstick.” I don't know if part of that was due to the relative firmness of this particular balm or not, but a few of my other Morgana balms are about a 4. Longevity was good, it lasted for about two hours (and some drinking) before I noticed fading. For a balm rather than a lipstick, this is fairly good longevity.
