New site series: BE Historic

This is not going to be the final year of my blog. No no no no. This may not even be the final year in this format (daily product write-ups) - because I've still got a heck of a backlog, and because I'm me, I'm sure I'll slowly buy more bits of pretty to showcase. But, even with my history of things going to pot, I'm going to start another site series: Bare Escentuals kits, from 2001 through 2015. Not all of them, mind you. Just the ones that I have all the color-pieces for (or, at least, all the eye and cheek color pieces.)

Which, as it turns out, is still a rather large amount of kit profiles.

New site series: BE Historic

In December 2014 I was doing my end-of-year organization, including planning out my posting schedule for 2015, and discovered…that I have enough kits from BareMinerals (nee Bare Escentuals) to post three kits a week…for 48 weeks. (THREE KITS A WEEK FOR NEARLY A YEAR, CARL!) It isn't because I've bought every single BE kit that I could get my hands on (though I did hit Ebay a lot after various kits were released on QVC to buy the eyeshadows that I knew poeple would be selling off.) It's because 1) BE was my mineral-makeup gateway drug, so I have quite a lot of it even now that I'm buying mostly indie; and 2) they repromote colors in their kits quite a lot, so once you've been buying BE for a few years, you look around and find that - well, damn, I have a lot more “kits” than I've ever bought or ever thought of buying.

It's taken me until the second quarter of 2015 - nearly the halfway mark - but this last month I've done a bit of research, found dates and prices for as many kits as I could, assembled swatch-montages of the color items from the kits, and figured out an exact posting schedule. So starting Sunday May 3rd, and continuing every Sunday until March 27 2016, I'm going to profile two kits from Bare Escentuals/BareMinerals. I'll post one kit where I have release date, channel, and price information; and another where I don't have a clue as to the release date, and am making a best guess at channels and pricing info. I'll post a third BareMinerals kit on Tuesday mornings.

I got my original kit-list - kit names and contents only - from the BE Addicts forum on Delphi. One of their members had created a spreadsheet that included all (or most) kits and their contents, up through 2011. No release date, channel, or price information was on that spreadsheet. I expanded the spreadsheet, added more columns, and then did a bit of research to find information on the older kits. I got a few pieces of information from other individual BE collectors, but most of my information came from QVC. (Most of the kits for which I have no information are, I'm going to guess, pre-2005 releases through QVC. But I could be wrong on that. For many of the “2005-2010” kits where I couldn't find release dates, I looked at the dates of comments on the QVC site and guesstimated based on what I knew of BE's general release “schedule”.) I'll be making this updated/expanded spreadsheet available online for anyone to download and re-use however they want.  It you have bought BE, or know some of the release-date or pricing-information for the kits that I'll post on Sunday afternoons, PLEASE feel free to leave a comment!
