Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

News Roundup for week 12, 2011

It's the last Friday in March. We've still got a week to go…but this is the final Friday of March 2011. Where in the hell is the year going? Companies like China Glaze and Zoya aren't helping, what with their already releasing their summer collections. So does that mean that we'll see fall collections in May? Geez, retailers are REALLY anxious to get the jump on things..! But they're helping contribute to my own personal sense of temporal displacement. When the clocks “jumped ahead” recently, I had no problems waking up an hour earlier. Instead, I spent two solid weeks honestly thinking that it was a day further into the week than it actually was. (This meant that when I re-realized that Thursday was not, in fact, Friday, I became quite sorely vexed.)

Up and Coming

Zoya has held a Nail Polish Exchange for the past two years, which has kicked off each year on Earth Day (late April). I don't know if they'll be doing that again this year or not; but if so, it's a great way to safely dispose of some of your unwanted nail polishes and treatments and get a new Zoya nail polish in return. I already have just over 90 Zoya nail polishes, so if there is an NPE this year, I don't know that I'll take part in it. I don't know that I'd be able to find six Zoya colors that I wanted!! (I know. Heresy. Absolute heresy. But...hey. More for the rest of you. And I did make some pretty spectacular hauls last year - I think I got nearly 30 polishes - so I've done rather well for myself.)

Items of Note

It's getting late in the month, but it's not too late to enter Lost In Makeupland's "100 orders" giveaway. (I meant to post this last week, but I forgot. #iFail.) You have to follow the company blog to be eligible, and then you can be eligible to win either a 50% discount coupon, or $50 of products from Lost in Makeupland. This Spain-based indie makeup company has a small product line, but they do offer a very nice, completely customizable "sampler pack" to let you get started, try out a number of their products, and see what you think. Full contest details are available on the Lost in Makeupland blog. Entries must be submitted by March 31, 2011.

Meow Cosmetics is having free shipping all this weekend, starting today Friday March 25. There's a $25 order minimum if you're outside the US, but if you've ever wanted to get a pile of samples - here's an excellent chance to load up. Then when the next sale comes around you'll know your proper foundation shade :D

Folks in the US who order from companies in Europe and Asia may have noticed a slowdown in deliveries, even before the disasters in Japan - mostly, you'll have noticed that companies who usually have delayed shipping and order turnaround times around and shortly after the winter holidays are still taking longer to get your orders to you, even three months after the holiday season. That's all due to heightened security restrictions on air cargo entering the United States. When buying from vendors outside the US, allow extra time for your order to reach you - doubly so around the holidays, when shipping is slowed by increased volumes anyway. Did you really want to get Niece Tammi that cool set of Accessorize polishes? Well, instead of a gift in December, it might have to be a late January gift. Just extend the holiday gift giving season. Everyone likes receiving presents, even if they don't arrive on traditional festival days. (With all the various cultures of the peoples of the Earth - both extinct and extant - there are less than a dozen days of the solar calendar year that do -=not=- have a holiday of some sort, even discounting most contemporary observances like Yuri's Night or International Children's Book Day. You don't even have to make up an excuse for a holiday, just choose what you want to celebrate.)

In other Zoya-related news, their latest promo (summer-collection BOGO) was only available to existing account holders - and it could only be used once. I'm just guessing, but they may follow a similar model for future promotions, as this lets them more clearly control how many times a person can use a redemption code, particularly with something as open-ended as the Earth Day promo; and, by looking at their tally of active user accounts (orders placed within the last calendar year) they can guesstimate how much product they'll need to have on hand for the promotion, thus hopefully avoiding the backorders and sold-out notices that have plagued some of their promos (the St. Patrick's Day and Women's Day promos of 2011, or their "20K fans on Facebook" promo, for example.) So if you haven't already created an account on Zoya.com, head over there Right Now and Do It, so that you'll be able to take advantage of all of their future promotions. With their polishes now up to $8 a bottle - the second price increase in as many years - the best way to get these polishes is through Zoya's numerous bonus buys and promo programs.
