Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

News Roundup for week 20, 2011

Really only one hugely notable thing this week…

So by now, most folks have heard about (or actually experienced) the Massive Pile of Fail that was the NYX 12th-anniversary sale. I won't blog about it in detail, because you can't throw a polish-bottle in the beauty blogosphere without coming across someone's take on the whole debacle, so it's been fairly well covered. It was a chrome-plated grade-A clusterfuck, pure and simple. They didn't plan properly beforehand; they didn't use all their options during; and their post-sale patch, yea and verily, it sucketh. Their current solution - offering coupons for 50% off your purchase, instead of items being $1.20 - may even be illegal under California's consumer protection laws, specifically the subsections addressing bait-and-switch advertising. (I emailed in for my code on Monday morning, and received it Wednesday evening.) I won't be buying any more NYX, but I'm not going to throw out what NYX I do have. It's still the same product that it was before the debacle, it hasn't been revealed to be toxic, the company's just shown themselves to be staffed by people who apparently took some cut-rate business courses. I will still be posting write-ups of the NYX that I have purchased; and if I find dupes and can post the comparative swatches - especially dupes from another brand with similar availability and pricepoint - so much the better. I have a dozen Diamond Sparkle lipsticks, several from the Black Label collection, about ten more Round Lipsticks, and the Pearl Mania and Chrome eyeshadows that I got. (Hey companies that want to do a sale: if your servers are hosted in a datacenter, like, oh, say, Rackspace (like NYX's are) and you've got a huge sale coming up, YOU CAN CALL THE COMPANY AND TELL THEM YOU NEED MORE SERVERS YOU DOOFS. THIS EVEN WORKS IF YOU SUDDENLY FIND OH SHITE, WE'VE GOT MORE TRAFFIC THAN WE THOUGHT WE'D HAVE. YOU THRICEROTTED FOOLS. There. That's all out of my system now.)
