NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Eye Pencil in Hot Pink

I freely admit, I'm a latecomer to the NYX makeup scene. I got my final nudge when Phyrra swatched a whole bunch of lipsticks, including several NYX Round lipsticks. I made my first order from Cherryculture, including two eye pencils (originally in rather tame shades: Iced Mocha, and Strawberry Milk.) Then I tried the brighter shades…and fell in love. Especially with Cherry and Hot Pink!! Red eye color in a wonderful, easy-to-use pencil form!!

Then came the discovery that Hot Pink had been discontinued some point in Spring 2011 (which would have been about the time I was placing my first NYX order), for reasons unknown. And the other newer bright jumbo eye pencil shades - Cherry, Orange, Yellow, Electric Blue - were almost always “out of stock” at the various etailers and even at the NYX site itself. (And most retailers who gave floor space to NYX didn't carry these bolder eye pencil shades.)

The universe hates me.

Hot Pink is not a color everyone can wear. I can imagine that it wouldn't look good on people with warm skintones. I, however, have cool skintones and on me, especially with my blue eyes, it looks AMAZING! These pencils are inexpensive, so unless I wear a primer beneath them the crease like no-one's business; but since everything does that on my oily lids - from eye pencils to cream shadows to BE's colored eye primers to my beloved paint pots - I take that pretty much in stride. Once applied over the primer, I don't have bunching, migration, or fading issues - which is nice. With some of the colors, I get a faint-looking wash of color. With Hot Pink, I get bold, strong, even, in-your-face hot pink everywhere I touch pencil to lid.

Before I went to Atlanta, I found a seller on Ebay who was selling this color and bought two more - then gave one to Sirvinya, because it was a great color and I thought she'd appreciate getting one of these hard-to-find shades. By the time I got back and checked Ebay again, all the sellers who had formerly had it available had it marked "discontinued"!!! So I found a seller on Amazon selling them at twice normal retail for NYX jumbo eye pencils, and bought three of the remaining stock. And these...these I'm not giving away! (Not until NYX announces that they're resuming production of this shade.)

Meanwhile, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy my cherry-red and hot pink eye pencils.
