NYX Cosmetics’ Midnight Chaos palette

I snagged this in a moment of weakness: I was trying to find something else on NYX’s site, and I was browsing the sale section to see if any recent faves were there. They were not…but this was. Instead of $22, I got it for $11. The colors appealed, so I thought: sure, I’ll treat myself, look it’s half price! (Never mind that I don’t use palettes very much.) This is the only item from NYX’s entire Midnight Chaos line that I got. There were eyeliners and lip colors, but they didn’t interest me very much - largely because they were all “offbeat” colors, and were all trying to be duochrome. Thus, the appeal varied.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

The leftmost four colors in the palette: sheer white sparkle and metallic cherry red on top, faded burgundy satin and light orange shimmer on the bottom. The center four colors in the palette: metallic slade blue shimmer and lavender shimmer on top, vivid violet satin and bright blue satin on the bottom. The leftmost four colors swatched: sheer white sparkle and metallic cherry red on top, faded burgundy satin and light orange shimmer on the bottom. The center four colors swatched: metallic slade blue shimmer and lavender shimmer on top, vivid violet satin and bright blue satin on the bottom.

The colors don’t necessarily apply as rich as they appear in the pan. They are fully pigmented, they just lose a little bit of oomph. The colors on the bottom row - the mattes - appear closest to how I’d expected them. One of them appears to change color quite significantly - the lighter, brighter green went a bit grey-based, with the green only appearing as an interference shimmer. The individual shadows aren’t too dry, so while there may be some initial fallout when you load your brush, it’s a bit better than other palettes in this price range. My two favorites are the evergreen matte (lower right corner) and the medium bright red shimmer (upper left, 2nd in.)
