Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

O Come, All Ye Readers

Hi! You're here from Holidailies, right? Okay, grab a chair or a piece of sofa or floor and I'll tell you who I am and what I'm doing. The Holidailies Readers' Condensed Version, if you will.

I've been on the internet since 1990, and on the World Wide Web since...well, almost since it was born (and yes, there's a difference). I'm a geek. I love science fiction and gaming and worldbuilding (proof: my latest makeup acquisitions were bought for their names: Damn Paladins, +20 Beautification, Magic Missiles, Chaotic Evil, Species 8472, and Geek Glam. They're cool colors, but the names was what grabbed me.) I have an organizational streak, and a habit for starting grandiose projects that may or may not be doable.

Case in point: I have over 900 pots of eyeshadow, and starting this past Halloween I embarked on a mission to use all of them at least once during a one-year period. Thus far I'm actually ahead of the game, since I've already used 97 colors...but I have this habit of taking days off. Like when I'm hit by a flurry of workstuff. Or when it's too dang cold to go into the bathroom, where the mirror is, and apply my shadows. (Yes, I could get a portable mirror, a magnifying one. Heck, it's not like they cost beaucoup bucks. But, you see, that would make entirely too much sense.) Or when I just haven't gotten my morning coffee. (Along with the OCD comes slacker tendencies. Ugh.) I've tried getting somewhat organized to keep myself on track: I've thought up themes for looks, I've made a conscious effort to use some of my least-loved colors first so that I'm not trying to use them at the end of the year when I've utterly run out of steam, and I've found some cool "daily inspiration" prompts online for color choices. That does help a bit - but when it's so cold that I have to argue with myself to get out from under the nice warm covers and go log in to work, let alone showering or getting dressed until 11 in the morning...let's just say it's going to be a long, long winter. Once spring comes and the mornings aren't so dang cold, I'll be more inspired to move from the warmth, and will be less grumbly. You, you lucky folks, get to deal with me in my pseudo-hibernation period.

I started this site because an online community imploded, and continued this site as a way to catalogue my ginormous horde, share my opinions of color similiarities across the brands, and teach while I myself learned things. That's always been my best way to lock a bit of knowledge in my head: immediately share that knowledge with someone else. Teaching someone something forces you to really examine the whys and wherefores, and carefully break a thing down to its most basic elements. I haven't ever found a better way to make sure I really know something than to try and teach it to someone else.

I tend to favor jeweltone colors over pastels, and richer hues over muted shades. I think that wearing makeup should be something you do because you want to, not something you do because you feel like you have to. I 'm not a makeup artist nor am I trying to become one - I'm just having a lot of fun with colors. I will probably be posting a makeup look every weekday, and a beauty product or retailer review on the weekends.

My obsession with makeup is fairly recent. Until about 3 years ago, I owned one palette of eyecolors and two tubes of mascara and that was pretty much it. None of this "primer-foundation-finishing-blush" stuff for me, nothanks. And then, one thing led to another. And this site was launched last January. (Holidailies this year won't quite reach the one-year birthday party for Sparklecrack Central, but you're all welcome to drop by on the 9th and see what I might be up to!)

Upcoming themes for this year include:

  • The Tarot - Major Arcana (halfway through that one now)
  • The Twelve Days of Christmas (oh come on, you knew that one was coming!)
  • The Colors of Qualities (inspired by J. Ruth Gendler's The Book of Qualities)
  • The Zodiac: Western Sun-Signs
  • Poetry (no powertools)
  • Puns
  • Book Titles
  • Pop Rocks (lyrics and titles of 80s pop songs)

...so if any of you visit beyond January 6 2010, you can see what else I've gotten up to.
