Paycheck death: new releases and sales

Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

Paycheck death: new releases and sales

Indie MMU

Meow Cosmetics' Lost Rainforest collection is available again, from now through September 30 2010. All the old colors are there, plus three new blushes, two new glow powders, and five new eyecolors. This weekend only, get free shipping with code LOST (US orders) or RAINFOREST (international orders over $85). Browse the whole collection at Meow's site.

Speaking of Meow, I don't know their sale schedule at all, I'm most definitely a consumer and not an insider...but July 4th (US Independence Day) and Labor Day (September 4-5-6, US and Canada) are both big traditional "sales events" for companies of various sizes. Folks may want to buy samples (which I did, and yes I'll swatch just as soon as they arrive), make their lists, and wait for these potential super-sale days to make mondo purchases. For fans of the Friday the 13th collection, August 2010 has a Friday the 13th...so those colors may be making a one-day reappearance.

Aromaleigh's Victoria's Revenge colors are still available for purchase, though one color (Skeleton Key) has already sold out. The Lost In Faerie collection — which has begun making preview-appearances all over blogs — is not yet available, though the latest news says "soon, but there is no definite ETA". On the one hand, I'd been hoping that Lost in Faerie would be released in time for me to use my customer-reward coupon to get those colors and my chosen colors from Victoria's Revenge. On the other hand, if Aromaleigh v1's LE collections are going to be available for longer than one month, that gives people more time to look, decide, save, and buy intelligently. Sure you don't get the rabid-impulse purchases; but with me, it was definitely a case of wait-and-see (and once I redeemed my customer rewards and got my discount code, I was much more content to pitch a few extra colors into the cart.) The economy's doing a wee bit better for now; but I still prefer having more than 30 days to look, get samples, make my decision, and then purchase what I truly want instead of purchasing what I think I might want, and potentially ending up with small cases of buyer's remorse (or the opposite - remorse for not acting sooner. There's only so far one can count on vault sales to let one get "the ones that got away".)

Speaking of vault sales, Aromaleigh still has several "vault sales" going on - former LE colors from long-discontinued collections, or LE colors that didn't make the cut when the bulk of the collection went permanent. I got some colors from a former holiday LE that predated my customer-history with the company, and fell hard in love with Butterscotch (from the Holiday 2007 LE). If you want a good neutral-ish shimmer that's neutral but not bland, a tan-golden-peach with the faintest hint of duochrome, go get yourself several pots of this color! (Also check out the incredible Holiday Blast colors. I recommend Spiked Punch, Champagne Toast, and Twinkling Lights.)

Big(ger) Names

This is the final week of the Zoya Polish Exchange 2010! If you've been on the fence, this is your last chance to place your swap-orders for any Zoya nail polish. You can send in nail polish from any brand except Zoya/Qtica. You can send in ancient polishes that have dried and / or separated. You can send in base coats and top coats and treatments. You can send in mini bottles. (I know because I've done all three of those things.) You can send in nearly-full bottles of something you got and tried but ended up really, really not liking at all. But you have to place the swap-orders this weekend, and you have to send your polishes in toute de suite. Some of Zoya's colors - like Raine - are no longer available for this exchange because they're out of stock. If you're trying to figure out which colors to get, I recommend Amanda, Adina, Ki, Kotori, Nikki, Tess, Richelle, Kalmia, Sasha, Penny, Freja, or Suvi. Collect your unwanted bottles, head over and place your swap-exchange order this weekend! (This is the second polish exchange - they had one this time last year, starting on Earth Day and ending on June 30th. So they may have one next year...or they may not. I don't know.)

China Glaze's Vintage Vixen collection comes out next month, and I've already selected which colors I want to order. Have you seen the swatches yet? They've been appearing on nail blogs for months...driving us crazy. And unlike OPI, China Glaze isn't going around suing etailers, so you'll be able to get your bottles at your local stores, at Sally Beauty Supply (probably, eventually), and at my favorite online etailers TransDesign, 8ty8Beauty, and Victoria Nail Supply.

Bare Escentuals has added several eyeshadow colors to their site - all colors that have been previously released in kits, but colors that people have been clamoring for. The list includes Charleston, Soho, Brass Roots, Jasmine Tea, Purity, Starlight, Sincerely Renee, and several others. The Friends and Family discount code SHARE still works, through the 27th - so head over, check out the new colors, and get a 20% discount by using the code SHARE at checkout. (Or hit your local boutique and see if they're there yet, and get punch cards. Either way works.) While a good number of the new colors are the various Wearable kits, split up and released into the wild, there are some old favorites (Herbal Tea, the previously-mentioned Starlight, Sterling Silver...) that were previously only available in one or two kits...and never seen again. I do have to wonder at some of their color classifications, though. I wouldn't list Starlight as a pink, nor would I call Charleston a plum. But...eh.
