Saturday Soundtrack: See The Constellation (They Might Be Giants)

I don't know that I'd call myself a raving fan of TMBG. I like their music, though like a lot of folks I only really caught onto their stuff in the very late 1980s, when Lincoln was released and got a lot of airplay. The tempo was upbeat, it was all pop-music-ish without being saccharide, but there was the sense, even musically, that they were having a lot of fun not taking it all too seriously. Some of the lyrics were funny, some were sarcastic, some of it slightly informative if you stood on your head and squinted, but it was fun.

Apollo 18 has 38 tracks. The last 20 of those are 30 second bits - almost like song-drabbles. I have fun listening to this one on shuffle, and listening to a few regular-length songs in between several shorter songs. It's like the rhythms of listening to the radio, with PSAs and adverts and station identification, -=without=- actually being preached at or sold to. (And of course I put this paragraph right above my affiliate links. I love the smell of irony in the morning!)

This one's made up of stills and video segments from their Apollo 18 album. It isn't official, but sometimes the best videos on YT are the 'unofficial' ones.

This version, also fan-made, cuts off a few bars at the end of the song - but it's nicely synchronized, and shows...well, constellations.

Side note: you know you're a big ol' font geek when you not only recognize the font used in the opening and closing credits, but you know it by name. And you have it on your computer.
