Shiro Cosmetics’ For Science collection
  • Manufacturer: Shiro Cosmetics
  • Availability: beginning May 2011 from the webstore
  • Contains: 3025 eye colors
  • Cost/Amount: USD$1.00 for 1/4 teaspoon sample, $3 for 1 gram, $5 for 2 grams
  • Would you purchase again: yes

Note: in 2012, the lineup was changed. The new (current) collection is listed first. If you're looking for old favorites, though, head down and view the old collection listing.

Color names based on the videogame Portal. Which, based solely on some of the names, sounds a wee bit Paranoia-esque. This was the first collection launched with Shiro's new website. My favorites from this collection thus far are Aperature Laboratories, Are You Still Here, Enrichment Center, For Science, Huge Success, Impossible, Shall Not Be Mourned, There Will Be Cake, Triumph, and You Were Adopted. All swatches are dry shadow patted over primer. (Lots of other folks will be doing foiled or wet swatches, so I figure a contrast is good. Plus you can see the color payoff - these are not only bright when foiled!!)

I’m trying to hold off on ordering these just to feed my Collect-‘Em-All compulsion when it comes to Shiro Cosmetics eyeshadows!

I’m guessing it won’t be long before I cave and order a sample set of all of them.

Love the name 2 + 2 = 10, although I’m not sure who uses Base 4 or why; I usually stick to Base 2/8/16!

Get the sample set - it can’t hurt, right? :)

Dunno about not hurting - according to my spreadsheet I have 549 mineral eyeshadows. All but 37 are sample sized.

That’s over 500 eyeshadow samples still to get through and I haven’t even tried most of them on!

New plan is that I’m not allowed to buy any new makeup until I sample the last batch that came in - so that’s a baker’s dozen of eyeshadow samples from Love Hues and another eleven from Linneaus to try before I can even think about getting these.

Besides, I’ve ran out of jars to decant into and have to use some up if I’m going to pick up any more! ;-)
