This liner was a much more positive experience than Melba. The liner sharpened easily, the product didn't crumble, and the line produced was decent - the pencil was soft enough to apply, but not so soft that you couldn't keep a point. The liner was a little less soft than I would have liked, but it wasn't as firm as “watercolor” liners that you have to wet the tip first.
Since this line seemed to be marketed as an “eye or lip” thing, I think that this red was intended for use as a lipliner, not an eyeliner. That may be why the product was just a little bit firmer than other similar products from other brands. I do like the color, and I can't order it from the US - probably because it uses dyes that the USDA has mandated can't be used in eye products. I don't like this color so much that I'm willing to look for more of this shade when I'm in the UK in six months or so, though. I prefer deeper maroons, and while they're still not easy to get ahold of, more are appearing in various US-available makeup lines.
