I don't know that I'd call this red, “ruby” red. It's a darker color, deeper and cooler than brick. It's definitely a darker red. It's dark enough that it can be worn by just about anyone - regardless of skintone or surrounding colors - and it won't make the eye area look infected or bruised. It's not quite sooty enough to be a smokey red in the most-often-used definition, but I can use this with deep charcoal shades and get a really great red-smokey eye look that's perhaps just a tiny bit cleaner than the standard.
I don't know if this can be used as a lip color - that is, I don't see anything on the vendor's site or page listing which colors are lip-safe - but this would definitely make a good nail color additive, if you didn't already own a faded-burgundy polish. If it is lip-safe, I can see this used to create a sultry-without-being-vampy gloss shade. The color leans a bit cooler, but it has enough neutral tones to it that I think that most people should be able to wear this without too much color-matching difficulty.
