Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

The Nail Files

(...or, Why LiAnn Doesn't Do Nailcolor-of-the-Week shots.)

Women with long fingernails have to do things a wee bit differently. They use the pads of their fingers a bit more than the tips. Some try to minimize any activity calling for a lot fine digital manipulation. (Not always, though: I had a friend with very long nails who played the piano. Every time she played a piece for me, it was accompanied by the clicking of her long fingernails upon the keys.) Longer-nailed women who keyboard extensively learn to use the pads of their fingers rather than the tips.

I, however, don't really have that option. I had severe problems with repetitive motion strain in my arms, shoulders, and neck. After careful evaluation and therapy, I found a keyboard that let me do all my computerwork without the attendant pain. The keyboard is split, and the keys are recessed into wells. It's all quite wonderful...except that if my fingernails get too long, they'll go right between the rows of keys when I'm typing. Most often this has caused typos. A few times my fingers have gotten stuck. Only once did a fingernail actually tear while keyboarding - but it was right at the quick. Thus I can either have long glorious fingers, or I can find a new career and business. (Or have lots and lots of pain throughout my upper body.)

I also tend to perhaps put a bit more wear and tear on my nailpolish than might be advisable. I start showing tip wear in two days, and start showing gaps in overall nail coverage (from scrapings and the like) three days after application. This is made even worse because the nail polish that I favor most, my duochromes and holographics, tend to lose their "neato" properties if I use a top coat.

I also have a temporary and (extremely) part-time job that is pretty strict about image: no overly visible makeup, no piercings except small stud earrings on females (and only one pair at that), no nail polish unless it's neutral or clear. This further restricts my nail-polish-wearing times. It's frustrating.

Does anyone know of a top coat that will not interfere with holographic/duochrome/glitter nail polish effects, and will let UV rays pass through? Additionally, any good suggestions for simple quick cuticle treatments? Mine are ragged as heck.
