Just a generalized news roundup before I head off to run some errands (including getting breakfast).

Toys!!! (and news. and some other stuff)

Bare Escentuals' Recent Fill Levels
I've recently bought a few more shadows from Bare Escentuals: Trophy Wife, Snowflake, Ell-If-I-Know, and Starlight (in the Purely Radiant kit). I can recall discussions on several forums about the apparently-reduced fill levels in Bare Escentuals' shadows. I don't know if they've rejiggered the jars (to further recess the bottom of the jar, reducing interior capacity) or which…but when I repotted all of these shadows, instead of taking three BE jars to fill one of my industry-standard 10-gram jars, it took two BE jars, not three. This is closer to what I was seeing when I first started collecting BE. I don't know if they're adding more filler, or more colorants (micas and oxides), or what. It's kind of hard to judge, because Trophy Wife and Ell-If-I-Know are such vivid colors anyway - I don't know if I'd be able to tell, from doing a swatch test, if BE just added more fillers. I bought these colors from a BE boutique, from Sephora, and from Nordstrom's - so there's three channels checked, and all appear to be giving the customers more sparkle in the jar than customers had been getting in late 2008/first half of 2009. Or maybe I'm just hallucinating…

Indie MMU Sale - Aromaleigh
Aromaleigh is offering a 30%-off coupon from now through the end of April. The coupon is GETPRETTY, and can be used as many times as you want between now and the end of the month. You'll get even bigger discounts on their Rocks! Sonic eyeshadows, their lippies, and all their other discontinued products…along with 30% off all their regular stuff when you use this coupon. This is kind of good, because Aromaleigh has surreptitiously raised their prices almost across the board. Where their Pure Eyes Matte shadows used to be $6.50 for a 5-gram jar, now they're $7.00. Most of their other eyeshadows have likewise gone up in price, except the stuff that was already marked at $8 a jar…so this coupon comes at a fairly good time. Head over to Aromaleigh v1's blog for more details.

Indie MMU re-releases: Meow Cosmetics
Last year, Meow released two limited-edition collections, Lost Rainforest and Caribbean Escape. Both were so incredibly popular that they'll be re-released in the upcoming months - so watch Meow's website and Twitterfeed for details. These collections had some beautiful colors - though not everything marked as “duochrome” really lived up to its name. I plan to get another jar of Canna blush, and possibly a few more colors from each. My personal recommendations: Bromeliad, Canna, and Iaru; and Atlantis, Blood Orange, and Stingray.

New shampoo - John Frieda's Root Awakening
Some other beauty blogs have announced this product already, so this may sound like I'm shilling; but, no, not exactly. About three weeks ago I noticed my local store had a new JF product in stock, and it was marked down. I've been using John Frieda products for nearly 15 years (starting with their now-discontinued Thicker, Cooler Hair shampoo, which was absolutely excellent), and while their stuff is midrange to pricier, it usually works pretty well. Root Awakening does work - very well. I've been using it daily for two weeks now, and my hair is stronger and less dry. I've been using Nourishing Moisture shampoo and conditioner, after using Suave's Pomegranite Splash (Suave's ultrainexpensive shampoos sometimes work well for me, but this particular one…not so much.) I've noticed that if you buy it at your local store, they may have sales…or they may not. Walgreen's is currently asking just under $7 a bottle if you purchase online.

Other stuff…
My tax return came in, and I spent yesterday shopping. The return wasn't too huge, and I've earmarked a good chunk of it for an urban garden (lucky me, having a backyard with full sun exposure!!), but I gave myself a set amount to “play with” on makeup and books and DVDs, and play I did. I've got new stuff to talk about when I get back. Right now, though, I've got a walk to get in, coffee to drink, and a few sundries to acquire.
