BareMinerals’ buxom Fresno

Having grown up in central California, it seems a little…odd…to choose this particular city-name. Fresno has never been “on the global map” (unless you count being mentioned in the original Karate Kid movie), it's not of the same profile as Las Vegas, Marrakech, Amsterdam, Barcelona, or any of the others. It lacks global name recognition, and even among Californians it's not always easy to place.

At any rate, Fresno is Brooklyn's deeper, darker cousin. Fresno, Barcelona, and Monte Carlo are all “easy-to-overapply” colors for me. I have to use a light hand, and blot, and then apply under a lighter lip gloss to soften the color a bit. When I used my usual application technique - outline the lips, then fill in several strokes, then smudge - I looked a little bit like Lily Munster. Even blotted, the color was almost too dark for me.

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the lip color in the tube; top right, the color applied over bare skin, to better show the shade; and below, the color applied to the lips.

In its debut-kit Buxom City Slickers, Fresno was paired with Brandi. I don't know that I'll ever use those two colors in combination, as combined they'd be a little dark for my coloring.
