Please pardon the gaps...

The site is in mid-migration now (manual migration of over 7,000 entries, so there's a lot to be done.) The entry stubs are created for older content, but for the most part, the actual content isn't there quite yet. I am working on it. Unfortunately I have no ETA. But feel free to link to any page! When the content does get populated, the URL will stay the same.

EoTD: Deities and Avatars - Oya

Last week I finally received an order from The SheSpace that I'd placed about a month before…so it was Pigment Repotting day, which is always a good thing (even with the rather severe in-transit spillage.) I got 12 colors (mostly new) and one color that I thought was one I already had…but the formulation had shifted, so I ended up with something much more brown than purple. I decided to put together a look using the colors that I have the most of - brown, red, and purple - which are also three key colors of the goddess Oya. Oya is a warrior-goddess of change, transition, and womens' power. She controls the wind and storm. Her colors are red, brown, purple, and deep burnt orange. [link, link]

Breaking it down

Face

My normal cleanser/moisturizer/concealer/foundation routine, finished off with Kiss (warmth, but also gold shimmer) dusted with Borealis (to cool down, and mute some of the shimmer.)

Eyes

I used Birthday Suit to act as a primer/adhesive for the colors, and also to give the overall look some depth. I didn't want to use Soft Ochre, which would have brightened the look significantly; nor something like Girl Friendly, which would have given too much red. Birthday Suit is a good mid-deep neutral color.

Make It Happen...Again is a cocoa rose taupe, and it's a gorgeous base color. It cancels out some of the gold shimmer in the cream shadow base, and adds a little depth. I applied this dry, using the BE Soft Focus Shadow brush.

Fame went into the outer crease, using a smaller, stiffer brush (in this case, BE's tapered contour shadow brush). It was a little bit dark when I applied it, but blended a bit I started to see the beginnings of a light smoky-eye look.

I added Amaryllis to the inner lid using the pointed end of BE's double ended shadow brush. I originally put in a bit too much, which was giving me a little more contouring than I wanted. I used a qtip to pull some of it up, and dabbed a bit more Make It Happen...Again to lighten things up.

The overall look was still a bit too dark, so I applied Bikini to lighten and brighten. Bikini's a soft pink with a blue iridescence to it, so it softened the purples without changing them overmuch.

I wanted to see if I could pull in a flash of color, so used Bon Bon wetlined to try and get some of the green. (It didn't quite work. Bon Bon's not the easiest color to work with. Simply Naturals' Chameleon gives me more of the green sheen, with the brown back-color intact.) I added Mystic Night wetlined on the outer lash line, and smudged it dry on the lower lash line - both for definition, and for a less blackened purple color.

BE's Flawless Definition on upper and lower lashes gave me definition, even though I didn't curl my lashes. (I've found that unless I'm going out, curling my lashes gives me a bit more drama than I generally prefer.)

Lips

Aromaleigh v1's Sweet Tart gave me a good cool mauve base, while adding Amber warmed up the blue iridescent flash and made the overall color more closely match the combined eyeshadow look.
