MAC’s Camel Coat paint pot

When these “pro” paint pot colors began filtering into the regular MAC lineup, I was interested…but waited for swatches to show up online. Paint pots are great; but they're expensive, and if there's a Color Tattoo that's similar enough in shade, I prefer to go with that option. Also, if it's a color that just won't work for me, I'll forego making a purchase.

Camel Coat looked like a good solid performer: a neutral creme finish with no yellow tones and a medium-light base color. I wasn't sure if it would be a little too ashy, or a bit too close to Just Beige (the matte beige Color Tattoo from the Fall 2013 collection.) I found a few swatches and it seemed like it was close, but not quite as bright - so I hit Ebates and splurged a bit.

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the eyeliner tube or pencil barrel; top right, the eyeliner applied over bare skin, to better show the shade and properties; and below, the eyeliner applied on the eyelid at the lash line.

Camel Coat is a fantastic everyday shade - tan, truly neutral, and a smooth and easy application. It looks very close to truly neutral, without being ashy. It isn't as bright as Just Beige, and it's less orange than the limited-edition paint pot Nubile.
