Makeup Revolution’s Ultra Professional Collection 2016 kit

(I’m only a year late in posting this one…) I had just started to get into Makeup Revolution - specifically the Redemption palettes - when I saw this kit on their website. I got it shortly after Christmas, when it was at half price. I was interested to try other Makeup Revolution items, but I’ll be honest: I really just wanted this for the Redemption-esque palette. I saw the deep pink, the two jeweltone purples, the blue and the green…and I had to have it. It was a good introduction to a few other items in the range, though.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

This kit has everything necessary for a full face of makeup: eye primer, eyeliner, eyeshadow palette, a bronzer/blush/highlight trio, four lip colors, a baked highlighter, and three brushes. The bronzer/blush/highlight trio was a special version of the Iconic Pro. And, of course, since I waited too long, those trios are no longer available at all. (Then again, I’ve never been a huge fan of using bronzer, so I probably would have used the blush and occasionally the highlighter, but rarely - if ever - the bronzer.) The lipsticks are okay, though they don’t lay down much color. The lip glosses put down a bit more color, but I’m put off by the texture. (For newer readers, I have never ever been a lip gloss fan. The Buxoms are the sole exception, and that’s because they don’t feel as slippery.) The eye primer was decent, though it took longer to dry and didn’t hold eyeshadow as well as my all-time favorite from Wet n Wild. The eyeliner didn’t stay put very long, but I tend to have that problem with many liquid liners. The baked highlighter was another hit! It had a peachy base color, and a kind of semi-iridescent finish. I ended up getting the same item in a few other colors. The brushes were not my personal favorite, but they aren’t my least favorite. The bristles were a little scratchy, and the brushes themselves were fine for blending, but not so much for fine-detail applications.

I haven’t seen a MUR kit like this one this holiday season, which is both good and bad. Good, because having the same items available every year means that the idea will go stale and start to lose its appeal. Bad, because…I was hoping to pick up another “all in one” kit that would let me sample some other goodies from Makeup Revolution!
