Mattese Elite’s Eggplant

Part of my second large order from Ricky's Star Dust collection. (Once I knew that the entire Mattese Elite line was going to be discontinued, I bought all the Star Dust colors I could get.) This has the dusky purple tones of Mad Hatter and Velvet, without leaning towards brown.

Photos that show how the product actually performs...! See how I create my swatches

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the eyeshadow in the pot; top right, the eyeshadow mixed with water and applied to bare skin; bottom left, the eyeshadow applied dry over primer.

This shade is also very pigmented, and if I apply too much, on my skin it makes my eyes look like I'm a week out of a nasty round of Fight Club and sporting a matching pair of shiners. I don't have this problem with the other similar shades in my collection, and I'm guessing that's because they either lean more brown, or have a slightly softer level of color payoff.

I have to be careful when applying this to avoid the “blackened eyes” effect, but when I do get the application just right, the effect is really breathtaking. (In a good way.)
