Sephora’s Contour Eye Pencil in Black Lace

Solid black, even coverage…not tons to say about this one, except that it's really great seeing this kind of color payoff and ease of application in a non-prestige liner collection! Once I apply, I have about 5 minutes where I can still smudge the line out or manipulate it relatively easily (for example…clean up the outside-the-lines inconsistencies that my not-so-steady hands always add.) After this liner cures, it's set for most of the day. It will transfer, though, if you apply multiple coats without sufficient time for the first coat to thoroughly cure.

A montage of three images: top left, close-up of the eyeliner tube or pencil barrel; top right, the eyeliner applied over bare skin, to better show the shade and properties; and below, the eyeliner applied on the eyelid at the lash line.

The pencil sits at about the 2/3 mark on the hard-to-soft scale. It's not quite as soft as Urban Decay, but I don't have to go extra slow to either get a solid lining, or to avoid tugging.

Black eyeliner is pretty much a staple. Almost any company that creates eyeliner pencils has a matte black shade. This one's significant because of the cost, the ease of application, and wear duration. I was initially upset when Sephora did away with their Flashy Liner collection, but these are a superior formula. Black Lace is my favorite black pencil for fine lining and detailing.
