TKB Trading’s Espresso

TKB Trading’s Espresso

Did you miss BFTE Cosmetics' original Coffee Shop collection, and really wanted to get your hands on the darkest shade, Espresso? Well…here it is. (Minus any ingredients to help improve adhesion, that is.) The coverage and color payoff are both solid, and there's no blackening - so no residue left behind when you remove it. The rainbow shimmer is a bit on the sparse side, in that a close-up doesn't show all the colors of the rainbow (like Immortality...

I liked seeing this color appear, because there seem to be less choices for rust or deep orange eyeshadows; and because this had the base color AND the cool duotone shimmer. I figured that the combination should complement my eye- and hair-coloring fairly well; and it was something I hadn't seen in other company's inventories.

Beauty Dupes and Disappointments: UDPP versus WnW Fergie eyeshadow primer

Beauty Dupes and Disappointments: UDPP versus WnW Fergie eyeshadow primer

The first eyeshadow primer I used was Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It had the community-wide reputation of being a miracle worker and a Holy Grail product. I hadn't ever used an eyeshadow primer before, and while UDPP seemed a bit costly, I did manage to score some little sampler tubes and gave it a try. It worked well, and so I bought one of the little genie-bottles on sale. I had the usual problems with getting all the product...

BareMinerals’ Charmed

BareMinerals’ Charmed

Pale pinks and frosts have not historically been one of BareMinerals' more dependable performers, at least not their loose powder versions. Sometimes the coverage is semisheer, sometimes the formula is chalky, sometimes the color does work well…but one rarely knows in advance. I originally skipped getting this kit when it was first released, because the color combination of pink and brown was…well, it wasn't all that exciting, and several other holiday kits released around the same time had...

This color actually reminds me of Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Shimmering Sea: a soft but opaque medium-light blue with a softened gold duotone shimmer on top. The color is a bit more teal than Spell. The color is a bit too light for me to use as a liner, if I want definition; but it's a great lower-key blue shadow for spring and summer.

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Cake

Femme Fatale Cosmetics’ Cake

A very light, almost white mauved brown with a smooth, pale gold duotone shimmer. When I first saw the photos of this color, I wasn't 100% sure that I'd want it. It seemed like another neutral, pretty enough, but probably fairly close to something I already had in my collection. It is…and it isn't. The base shade is simple, versatile, just barely this side of warm-neutral. The soft gold shimmer, which wasn't all that apparent in the photos, is something...

Stila’s Waterproof Smudge Stick in Lionfish

Stila’s Waterproof Smudge Stick in Lionfish

Neutral-warm brown with a near-metallic shimmer finish. Application was just a little on the patchy side - once this cures, you can add additional coats or touch-up without moving the color that was previously deposited, though. I don't care for how this shade looks smudged out, because the metallic finish gets pulled away first leaving the color behind. I prefer straight application, clean line, no smudging.
